DescriptionThe whole story▼
Look at the drivetrain of a Moto Guzzi V7 III Special and it resembles a small car more than a typical motorcycle. The crankshaft runs lengthwise, a single dry clutch plate sits behind it, the gearbox follows, and a shaft takes the drive to the rear wheel. That layout has been a Guzzi signature for decades, and it gives the clutch a feel of its own. Accossato's ESD037 is a clutch lever for the V7 III Special of 2017 to 2020, CNC-machined from aluminium, adjustable for reach and made in short, standard and long versions.
Key Features
- Replaces the clutch lever of the V7 III Special, 2017 to 2020
- Mounts at the original clutch mounting
- Adjustable reach
- Three blade lengths, the standard one approximately 138 mm
- Long blade in blue, gold, green and orange for a lighter pull
- Black anodised hub, blade in one of seven colours
- Fixed lever, no folding mechanism
- Delivered in an Accossato box
Construction and Material Quality
A clutch lever is pulled against spring pressure thousands of times a year, so stiffness and a close fit at the pivot matter more than looks. The ESD037 is milled from aluminium rather than cast, which gives it a dense, even section, and it is fixed along its whole length, without the hinge a folding lever needs. After machining it is anodised: the hub, with the pivot bore and the adjuster, always in black, the blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green. There is no paint to wear through where the fingers rest.
One Dry Plate
Most motorcycle clutches are a stack of plates running in engine oil. The V7 III Special uses a single dry plate instead, and without an oil bath the take-up tends to feel direct. The usual technique is short and deliberate: find the point where the plate begins to grip, hold it only as long as the bike needs to start rolling, then let out the rest of the travel. Long spells of slipping at walking pace are something a dry clutch is better spared, so the more precisely your fingers can place the lever, the less time the plate spends in that zone. This is where the adjustable reach earns its keep. With the ESD037 set so that the take-up point falls where your fingers are relaxed rather than stretched, the release becomes a small, repeatable movement. On the V7 III Special, the standard blade feels closest to the original; the long one adds leverage for riders who prefer a lighter pull, and the short one suits two-finger use.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESD037 for the V7 III Special from 2017 to 2020, with the model entered as V7 750 Special. The lever replaces the original at the factory clutch mounting. On the right side of the bar, the EDF016 brake lever is listed for the same years and in the same range of colours.
Road Approval
Without a documented German ABE, the ESD037 is sold by us for track use.
