The Trofeo ACX Scrambler takes up one line and one model year here: 2022, 525 cm³. Machines that appear for a single season are pleasant to own and easy to lose track of in a parts system, and the awkward part usually arrives late — years afterwards, when a consumable is needed and the shelf space it used to occupy has gone to something newer. An air element that is washed and refitted removes itself from that list permanently. The Sprint Filter CM251S is bought once, and then it is simply maintained.

The consumable that stops recurring

Ownership of a short-run model is mostly ordinary until a small part is not available, and air panels are exactly the sort of part that quietly disappears from distribution while the motorcycle is still perfectly good. Taking one consumable permanently off the list is worth more here than on a model built for a decade. There is no need to oversell what comes with it: a drop-in filter does not make a standard Trofeo ACX Scrambler noticeably faster. The gain is that the intake resistance is known, low and repeatable, and that keeping it that way needs an air line rather than a supplier.

Two years, and a longer expectation

Sprint Filter states both things, and they are not the same statement. The element is engineered to last as long as the motorcycle it was cut for, provided it is cleaned when it needs cleaning and dried properly afterwards. The warranty is narrower and precise: two years from the date of purchase. Read together, they describe a part meant to be kept rather than a subscription. For genuinely dusty use the catalogue also carries CM251P14 for this airbox, at 14 µm and 1,800 l/m²/sec — finer, and breathing more slowly in exchange.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air does the routine work on a CM251S: aim it at the clean side so the dust is driven back out of the weave rather than through it. When water and grit have been involved, wash the element in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse thoroughly, and let it dry all the way through in open air.
