Its 112 mm pistons fill in two enormous discrete events per cycle, with nothing overlapping to smooth the demand, and that manner of breathing puts unusual weight on whatever stands in the inlet path. The element is the only part of that path an owner ever handles. PM127S is the woven polyester version of it, and it serves the base bike, the S and the Tricolore without distinction.

Key Features

Polyester run dry, with no film that heat could mobilise

Roughly twice the medium area of a conventional sports panel

Threads from 22 micrometres upward, woven rather than pressed from pulp

Goes into the standard airbox in the original element's seat

Blown clean with an air line and returned to service, season after season

Two-year warranty from the day of purchase

Two fills, not four

An inline four draws almost continuously; its intake events overlap and the demand at the airbox is comparatively smooth. A big twin does the opposite, taking its air in two huge gulps with long gaps between them, which means the peak flow through the element is far higher than the average would suggest. Restriction rises with the volume passing through, so those peaks are where a loaded panel is paid for, and they are also where this engine does its most memorable work. Twice the cloth area means the element is running at a smaller fraction of its capacity when the gulp arrives.

Three badges, one airbox

Ducati separated the standard 1199 from the S and the Tricolore with suspension, wheels and paint, not with induction — all three take this element, and so does the 899 that came from the same architecture. The engine's output is untouched by any of it: a filter is not a tuning part and this one is not sold as one. What it changes is that the restriction stops climbing through the interval, and that the part is cleaned rather than reordered.

Care and cleaning

Ordinary service is compressed air applied to the clean face and blown outward, so that anything held in the cloth leaves the way it came. A wash is for when air is no longer enough: warm water, a mild detergent, a rinse until the water runs clean, and then unhurried air drying — no heater, no flame, no hot-air gun. It goes back dry. Sprint Filter's care sheet is in the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

Covers the Ducati Panigale 1199, the 1199 S and the 1199 Tricolore from 2012 to 2017.
