The first step. Spark builds its R1 programme in three collector diameters, and this is the narrowest of them — an AISI 304 stainless two-into-one manifold at 54 mm, the least expensive way into the range and the one that changes the standard bike the least.
Key Features
- AISI 304 stainless steel 2-into-1 manifold, 54 mm, for the Yamaha R1 and R1M.
- STEP1 of Spark's three-stage 3/4 programme — D.54, D.60, then the D.65 full systems.
- Spark's first version, optimised for the 2015-2019 R1 and able to reach a lower decibel reading.
- Spark's first version, optimised for the 2015-2019 R1 and able to reach a lower decibel reading.
- Eliminates the catalytic converter.
- Compatible with the passenger footrests.
- Keeps the standard headers in place.
- Supplied without a silencer.
What a 3/4 System Leaves Alone
A 3/4 system replaces the section from the collector back, and leaves the four standard headers where they are. That is the whole difference from a full system, and it explains the price: you are buying the middle of the exhaust, not the front of it.
What you get for that is the catalytic converter gone — the heaviest and most restrictive single component in the standard exhaust — without the labour and the cost of pulling the headers out of the fairing. It is the change with the best ratio of result to disruption on this motorcycle, which is why Spark makes it the first step rather than the compromise.
Why AISI 304
AISI 304 is the stainless grade the exhaust industry defaults to, and Spark names it rather than writing "stainless steel" and leaving it there. It resists the corrosion that road salt and washing bring, it takes repeated heat cycling without embrittling, and it welds cleanly — which matters on a hand-built two-into-one where every joint is a weld.
Spark is specific about where this diameter belongs: the D.54 was the first version, optimised for the 2015-2019 model years, and it is the one that allows an even lower decibel reading. The D.60 that followed was matched to the 2020-2023 bikes. It is also the honest choice for a first-step part. Titanium belongs where grams are being counted; on a manifold that a rider may replace in a year when they move to D.60 or D.65, stainless does the same job for a fraction of the money.
Fitment & Compatibility
Yamaha R1 and R1M, 2015 through 2025. Complete with the 350 mm Force silencer this manifold becomes GYA8828T. The next step up is the D.60 stainless manifold GYA8878 at the same price, or the D.60 titanium GYA8858.
Road Approval
None. Removing the catalytic converter ends road legality on its own. Closed circuits only.
