DescriptionThe whole story▼
Checking that a Ducati Panigale's steering stem ring nut is still torqued correctly is routine maintenance, but doing it with a wrench that slips or rocks against the top yoke risks scratching the plate every time, which is exactly what Melotti Racing designed around when it built this steering stem nut wrench. Machined from solid Ergal and anodised, it removes and re-torques the ring nut without marking the surrounding bodywork.
Key Features
- Wrench for the steering stem ring nut on Ducati Panigale models
- Machined from solid Ergal, then anodised
- Taller hex profile for secure seating in a torque wrench
- The only one of Melotti Racing's wrenches with 8 pins, to avoid ovalising the ring nut's holes
- O-ring on the outer rim keeps the wrench seated stably without scratching the top yoke
- Melotti part CH.DU.36
Construction and Material Quality
This wrench is machined from solid Ergal and anodised afterward, with the same taller hex profile Melotti Racing uses across its torque-wrench-compatible tools for a secure socket fit. It is the only wrench in Melotti Racing's range built with eight pins rather than four, specifically to avoid ovalising the holes in a Panigale's steering stem ring nut, and an O-ring set into the wrench's outer rim gives it a stable seat against the top yoke so the tool does not scratch the plate while torque is applied.
Checking Steering Head Preload Without Scratching the Yoke
Steering head bearing preload is one of those settings that drifts slightly as bearings bed in, so a Panigale that felt right at the start of a season can need the ring nut checked again a few races later, and that check only matters if the tool used does not damage the yoke in the process. The O-ring seat on this wrench exists for exactly that routine recheck, not just the first time the ring nut is torqued, so a mechanic can confirm preload as often as the schedule calls for without slowly marking up the top yoke over a season.
Fitment and Compatibility
Melotti Racing lists this wrench as compatible with the Ducati Panigale 899 (2013-2016), 959 (2016-2019), 1199, 1199 S and 1199 R (2012-2017), 1299 and 1299 S (2015-2018), Panigale V4, V4 S (2018-2026), V4 R (2019-2026) and Panigale V2 955 (2020-2024).
Road Approval
No type approval or test certificate applies to this wrench, since it is a workshop tool rather than a fitted part; it does not affect the road status of any Panigale it is used to service.
