DescriptionThe whole story▼
For the R1200RT, the JP CO BM018RS replaces the combined throttle housing and right-hand switch block with a single machined body, RS milled into the flank.
Key Features
- BMW R1200RT (2014–2018)
- Machined from a single block of Ergal 7075
- RS lettering milled into the housing
- Integrated right-hand switch block
- Black anodised
- Plug-and-play on the original connector
The Long-Distance Boxer
An RT is a motorcycle designed around the assumption that the rider will be aboard for eight hours. Electrically adjustable screen, full fairing, integrated luggage, a seat that works at the end of the day rather than at the beginning. Everything about it is arranged for duration rather than for intensity.
Lettering on a Working Machine
The RS designation identifies the boxer sports and touring family rather than one specific model, and on an RT it reads as a nod to the lineage rather than a claim about the bike. It is milled into the aluminium, not applied, and it will look identical after a decade of high-pressure washing and winter salt.
Controls That Never Get a Rest
No other motorcycle in BMW's range asks as much of its handlebar switches. Screen height, cruise control, audio, heated grips, riding modes, display pages, all adjusted repeatedly across every long day. That volume of use is what eventually turns a crisp control into a vague one, and it happens gradually enough to go unnoticed.
A Single Machined Assembly
Because BMW built the switches into the throttle housing, replacement covers both. This unit is one piece of Ergal 7075, anodised black, plugged into the standard connector, with no wiring modification and no diagnostic consequence.
The Pre-ShiftCam Boxer
This fitment stops at 2018, which is where the 1250 took over. The earlier 1170 cc engine is a different unit and the motorcycle around it used a different electrical layout, so the year on the registration document decides which housing is correct.
No Seam, No Ingress
Milled from one piece, the body has no moulded joint anywhere. On a motorcycle ridden year-round and washed regularly, the absence of that seam is what keeps the switch elements dry over a decade rather than a couple of seasons.
