DescriptionThe whole story▼
Akrapovic names the three exhausts this shield belongs with: the stainless Slip-On Line S-Y2SO11-AHCSS and the two carbon versions, S-Y2SO16-HAPC and S-Y2SO12-HAPC. That is unusually specific, and it is worth taking literally.
Key Features
- Carbon fibre, replacing the standard heat shield
- Named for use with three specific Akrapovic slip-ons
- Covers the YZF-R3 and YZF-R25 from 2014 to 2021
- An optional extra rather than a required part
- Eight model years on one part number
Check Which Slip-On You Have
Three part numbers are listed, and they are not the whole Akrapovic range for this machine. If your R3 carries a different silencer — an older revision, or one from another maker — the shield may not line up.
The part number is stamped or printed on the silencer itself. Send it to us if you are unsure and we will confirm before the order goes out.
Carbon on a Small Sportsbike
The R3 has very little bodywork and a visible exhaust route on the right side. A carbon shield beside a carbon silencer is one of the few ways to make the machine look finished rather than modified — the two parts read as one component.
With the stainless slip-on the effect is different: a carbon shield against a steel can is a deliberate contrast rather than a match. Both work; they are different intentions.
Eight Model Years
Yamaha kept the R3's exhaust and shield mounting unchanged from 2014 through 2021, across the 2019 restyle. One part number covers all of it, which on a machine this commonly bought second-hand is genuinely useful.
The Cheapest Akrapovic Part for an R3
At this price the shield is the least expensive way to put the brand on the motorcycle, and on a machine bought by riders early in their motorcycling that matters. It is also the part most likely to be fitted before the exhaust itself.
What It Replaces
Yamaha's standard shield is a painted steel pressing. Removing it and fitting carbon changes nothing functionally — both keep heat off the leg equally well — and changes the look of the right side of the bike entirely.
The original is worth keeping. An R3 sold with all its standard parts in a box is an easier sale.
Not the 2022 Machines
Yamaha revised the R3 for 2022 with new bodywork and a changed exhaust mounting. This shield covers 2014 to 2021 only, and there is no adapter — the fitting points moved.
A Small Part, Fitted in Minutes
A heat shield is held by two or three fasteners and comes off with a hex key. There is no exhaust work involved, nothing to reprogram and nothing to align — it is among the simplest things anyone can fit to a motorcycle.
Fitment and Compatibility
P-HSY3SO1 covers the Yamaha YZF-R3 and YZF-R25 from 2014 through 2021. It replaces the standard heat shield and is intended for use with the three Akrapovic slip-ons named above.
