DescriptionThe whole story▼

Kawasaki added the Z1000 R Edition to its range for 2017: a Z1000 with a more capable front brake and rear shock than the standard bike, aimed at riders who intend to use them. Such riders spend time on track and in the workshop, and brake work is part of it: fresh fluid before a circuit day, new pads, a bleed after a hard session. The front brake reservoir sits on the handlebar, within easy dripping distance of the tank. For the Z1000R of 2017, Accossato lists the FC143, an aluminium filler cap with quick release and a pawl pin in the colour you pick.

Key Features

  • Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Kawasaki Z1000R, model year 2017
  • Accossato entry: Z 1000 R, 2017
  • Machined entirely from aluminium on CNC equipment
  • Robust and durable according to Accossato
  • Quick-closing pawl; pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Pawl available separately
  • No German ABE on file; for circuit use

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato's FC143 is CNC-machined from aluminium throughout and, in the company's own words, robust and durable. It is a new design. A quick-closing pawl opens and closes the Z1000R's tank in a moment, and its pin is ordered in whichever of the six colours suits the bike, perhaps one that already appears on the frame or the wheels. Should the pawl be damaged, Accossato supplies it separately, so the cap does not have to be replaced.

Brake Fluid and the Tank Top

Brake fluid is hard on paint and can mark coloured finishes, and a single drop running down from the reservoir is enough to leave a lasting trace. Anyone who changes the fluid or bleeds the brakes of a Z1000R, in the paddock or at home, should treat the tank as the area most at risk. Turn the handlebar so the reservoir sits as level as possible, then cover the tank completely with a thick cloth or a fitted cover, filler cap included. Keep a second cloth and a bottle of clean water within reach: if fluid lands on the bike, dab it off and rinse the spot at once rather than wiping it across the surface. Keep the fuel cap closed throughout, so nothing can find its way into the tank. When the job is done, lift the cover carefully, fold it inwards so any drops stay inside, and look over the FC143 and the paint before the Z1000R rolls out again.

Fitment and Compatibility

On Accossato's application list the FC143 appears for the Z 1000 R with the single model year 2017, and this product follows that entry. We also list the same cap for the standard Z1000 and for the Z1000SX. If your R Edition is from another year, study the list carefully before ordering, since this entry names 2017 only.

Road Approval

No German ABE and no parts certificate are on file for the FC143, so we sell it for circuit use. The Z1000R's factory cap usually locks with the key and remains the right choice for public roads.
