DescriptionThe whole story▼
The ER-6n earned much of its reputation between home and work. Kawasaki's naked twin was narrow enough for city traffic, comfortable enough for daily use and easy to handle at low speed, so a great many were bought for the commute. A commute is clutch work: every junction, roundabout and set of lights means another pull. Accossato's ESK750 makes those pulls easier. Machined from aluminium for the ER-6n of 2006 to 2016, it has a reach you can set and a long blade among its three lengths.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the ER-6n, 2006 to 2016
- Long blade for a lighter pull in blue, gold, green and orange
- Reach adjustable
- Standard version about 138 mm, available in every colour
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Machined and anodised aluminium, black hub
- One rigid piece, no folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Commuter bikes tend to live outdoors, in rain, sun and whatever the road throws up in winter, and the finish of the ESK750 suits that life. Once Accossato has machined the lever from aluminium on CNC equipment, it is anodised, a process that turns the surface of the metal into an oxide layer holding the colour. The hub is always black and houses the pivot and the reach adjuster; the blade is coloured to order. Because the lever has no hinge, there is no joint for grit to work its way into and no play to develop at the friction point.
Stop, Start, Repeat
Count the clutch pulls on a busy urban route and the total is surprisingly high. In heavy traffic they come every few seconds, and a long commute can add up to hundreds. Each pull starts with the fingers opening to reach the blade; if the lever stands far from the grip, the hand stretches wide every time, and by Friday the forearm makes its opinion known. Two changes help. The adjuster brings the blade closer, so each pull begins with the fingers already partly curled around it. The long blade adds leverage, so each pull needs less force. Together they turn a tiring routine into an unremarkable one, which is exactly how a commuter bike should feel. For an ER-6n that spends its weekdays in town, a closer and longer lever is the obvious set-up; the short blade makes more sense on a bike that mainly sees country roads.
Fitment and Compatibility
Every ER-6n from 2006 to 2016 is covered by the ESK750 in Accossato's list, with entries spanning the original bike, the 2009 update and the 2012 redesign. It takes the place of the stock clutch lever at Kawasaki's own mounting. The EDF044 brake lever completes the pair on bikes from 2009 onwards; an ER-6n of 2006 to 2008 appears on the list only for the clutch.
Road Approval
There is no record of a German ABE for the ESK750 on the ER-6n. Its intended use is on the track.
