DescriptionThe whole story▼

With a half fairing, the XJ6 became the XJ6 Diversion, reviving a name Yamaha had used in the 1990s for its sensible, faired all-rounders. The fairing takes the wind off the chest, which makes the Diversion a natural choice for riders who commute through every season, including the months when the ride home is in the dark. Accossato's EDF016 takes over from the stock brake lever of the XJ6 Diversion, listed for 2009 to 2015: machined from aluminium, mounted on the original master cylinder and adjustable for how far the blade sits from the grip.

Key Features

  • For the Yamaha XJ6 Diversion, model years 2009 to 2015
  • Mounts on the original front master cylinder in place of the stock lever
  • Adjustable distance to the grip, adjuster close to the pivot
  • Three blade lengths: short, standard at around 138 mm, and long
  • Seven blade colours with a black anodised hub
  • Machined from aluminium rather than cast
  • Fixed blade without a hinge

Construction and Material Quality

Aluminium does not rust, and anodising adds a hard, sealed surface that stands up to rain, road grime and the regular cleaning that year-round riding brings. Accossato machines the EDF016 from solid on CNC equipment, then anodises the hub in black and the blade in the colour you choose. Nothing folds: the blade is fixed along its whole length, so the lever answers in the same direct way on the first commute of the week and on the fifth, without a hinge that could work loose.

Riding After Dark

At night you cannot look down to find a lever, and you should not need to. The right hand has to know where the blade is purely by feel, in thick gloves, while the eyes deal with glare, reflections and a road surface that is harder to read than in daylight. That works when the lever always sits in exactly the same place relative to the fingers. With the EDF016 you set that place once, wearing the gloves you use in the dark months, and it stays put. For commuting on the XJ6 Diversion, the standard blade is a sound choice: it leaves room for the whole hand when a car pulls out and you need full braking at once. Set the reach at dusk in your winter gloves rather than bare-handed in a bright garage, because the difference between the two is larger than it seems.

Fitment and Compatibility

The XJ6 600 Diversion entry in Accossato's list names the EDF016 for 2009 to 2015. The lever replaces the stock blade on the Diversion's original front master cylinder. Should you want the clutch side to match, Accossato's ESY688 is listed for the XJ6 Diversion from 2009 to 2016 and comes in the same seven colours with the same black hub, so the pair can be ordered together.

Road Approval

German road approval (ABE) is not documented for this EDF016, and the lever is sold for circuit riding.

Scope of Delivery

One brake lever, packed in its own Accossato box, in the colour and length chosen at order.
