DescriptionThe whole story▼

The R1M is the version of Yamaha's superbike aimed most directly at the track, and on track every session starts the same way: with tyres that are not yet up to temperature. Whether they come off warmers or straight out of the garage, the first laps call for braking that is firm enough to build heat but gentle enough not to overwhelm the rubber. The Accossato EDR015 is a CNC-machined aluminium brake lever for the R1M of 2015 to 2021, adjustable for reach and made in three lengths.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the Yamaha R1M, 2015 to 2021
  • Uses the original master cylinder
  • Reach adjustable
  • Short blade for two-finger braking in blue, gold, green, orange or silver
  • Standard blade approximately 138 mm, in any of seven colours
  • Black hub, anodised aluminium, CNC-machined
  • Rigid blade with no folding joint
  • No German ABE documented: for the track

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato machines the EDR015 from aluminium on CNC equipment and anodises it in two tones. The black hub holds the pivot and the adjuster, and the blade carries the colour. The result is a rigid lever with clean edges and an even cross-section, which matters when your fingers are asked for very small changes of pressure. Because the design has no hinge, the blade cannot shift relative to the hub, and the feel through the lever stays constant from the out lap to the chequered flag.

Cold Tyres, First Laps

A cold tyre grips less than a warm one and gives less warning before it lets go. On the out lap and the first flying lap, the aim is to load the front gradually: brake a little earlier than you will later, squeeze progressively and release smoothly, so that the tyre is worked without being overloaded. That is a matter of fine control at the very start of the lever's travel, and it is easier when the blade sits where your fingers can apply light pressure without first having to stretch. Set the reach on the R1M in the gloves you wear on track, with the bike on its stands and your hands in the riding position, and do it before the session rather than in the pit lane. Many circuit riders prefer the short EDR015, which leaves two fingers on the brake and two on the throttle; that split makes gentle, progressive inputs easier than a full-hand grab. As temperatures rise over the following laps, the same lever position lets you move from gentle to firm without changing your technique, only the pressure.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the EDR015 for the R1M from 2015 to 2021. It fits the original master cylinder in place of the standard lever. For the clutch, Accossato names the ESV04A, which it lists for the R1M from 2015 through to 2024. The standard R1 has listings of its own, separate from those of the R1M.

Road Approval

We sell the EDR015 as a track component; it has no documented German ABE.
