This is the one argument that genuinely favours the freer-flowing standard P08 at 5,050 litres per square metre per second over this element at 1,800 — and it deserves stating rather than hiding, because a page that only lists reasons to buy is not much use to anyone.

Why most Pikes Peak owners should still consider it

The counter-argument is simply where these motorcycles actually spend their lives: European passes, not Colorado. Alpine roads in summer are dry, dusty and busy, and the fine particulate on them is exactly what a 14-micron medium catches and an 80-micron one does not. Unless you are genuinely riding above three thousand metres with any regularity, the retention is worth more to the engine than the flow reserve is — a 1200 cc twin at road speeds is nowhere near asking the airbox for everything it has. The medium is dry non-woven, never oiled, cleaned with compressed air from the clean side.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards — a non-woven medium releases dust readily and needs nothing else in normal use. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and let it dry fully in air; never with heat, never with a flame. Refit it dry. There is no oiling step and never has been.
