DescriptionThe whole story▼
This listing is for the big riders. The Leatt Neck Brace 5.5 in Stealth Black/Grey is offered here in size XXL, and in Leatt's 2027 range Stealth Black/Grey is the only 5.5 colour made in XXL. If S/M and L/XL braces have felt narrow across your shoulders or perched too high on a broad chest, this is the 5.5 to try.
Apart from the size it is the familiar 5.5 for motocross, enduro and trail: reinforced polyamide, three-way SureFit adjustment, CoreFlex breakaway strut and a push-button closure with emergency release, from 600 g.
Key Features
- Size XXL, the only 5.5 colour Leatt makes in XXL
- Stealth Black/Grey, a dark two-tone finish
- Three-way SureFit adjustment, front and rear
- Four interchangeable wedges for the rear strut angle
- CoreFlex split rear strut, breaks away before causing injury
- Low-profile push-button with emergency release
- Weight from 600 g, reinforced polyamide
- Brace-On compatible, CE to Regulation (EU) 2016/425
Sizing for larger builds
Leatt does not publish centimetre ranges for its braces, so XXL is not tied to a chest measurement. The manual describes the check that counts. Put on your helmet and the chest protector you ride in, close the brace and look in a mirror: the XXL brace should sit level on both shoulders without rocking. Then look up as you would on a jump face. The rim of the helmet should come close to the brace, not be pushed up by it. If L/XL already works for you, stay there; if you are unsure between the two, contact us first.
Fine-tuning the XXL
On a larger frame, small changes in angle make a big difference. The SureFit sliders front and rear give three ways to adjust the height and position of the Stealth 5.5, and Leatt's manual lists four interchangeable rear thoracic wedges for different back shapes. The lower part of the brace can be adjusted at front and back as well.
With body armour
Bigger riders often wear substantial chest and back protection. The 5.5 has a low-profile shape that Leatt designed to work with modern riding gear, and it rests on the Brace-On shoulder pads used on most Leatt chest and body protectors, so the XXL brace and the protector carry load together.
Protection and certification
In a crash the 5.5 limits the helmet's travel and steers force from the neck into the shoulders and torso; cut-outs keep the helmet rim off the collarbones. Leatt states that its braces cut critical cervical spine injuries by up to 89% and collarbone injuries by up to 45% compared with no brace, referencing an independent moto study by Action Sports EMS. That is the manufacturer's claim. The Stealth 5.5 is CE tested and certified to the PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425.
Build and upkeep
85% reinforced polyamide frame, a split CoreFlex rear strut with 10% nylon that flexes with the spine and breaks away under extreme load, and 5% polyurethane foam in the injected padding. The push-button sits flat, and the emergency open screw lets the brace be removed after a fall. Clean everything with soap and water only; per Leatt's manual, do not reuse a crashed brace and replace it every two years with frequent use. The packaging is plastic-free.
What you should know
- This product is size XXL only; S/M and L/XL in this colour are not part of this listing.
- Leatt gives no cm chart, so XXL is confirmed with the fit check, not a measurement.
- Larger size does not mean more protection, only a fit for a broader build.
- Wear with a full-face helmet; a brace does not replace riding skill.
Colour
Stealth Black/Grey pairs a dark grey upper shell with black struts and gold-toned Leatt lettering, the most discreet look in the 5.5 line. It disappears under dark jerseys, hides roost marks and mud better than any lighter colour, and will not clash with a change of kit. On a hot day the dark shell warms up more in the sun than a pale one.
