Almost nothing about intake parts can be compared cleanly, but one thing here can. The four media catalogued for this airbox are the same object in every respect except the material: identical frame, identical fold, identical depth, identical sealing face. So when their published figures are set against each other, nothing else is varying underneath. That makes the comparison between them exact, and it is worth using, because the comparison everybody actually wants — medium against engine — is not available at all.
Key Features
- Dry polyester nonwoven at 7 microns of filtration and 560 l/m²/sec of flow
- Identical in frame, fold and sealing face to the other media for this housing
- Approximately a ninth of the standard weave's rate: the deepest trade in the range
- Never oiled, so behaviour does not depend on how it was last treated
- Goes into the standard 990 airbox in place of the original, with no remapping
- Regenerated with compressed air; two years of warranty from purchase
The comparison with no caveats
Line the four up and the sequence is unambiguous, because only one variable moves. The racing weave sits at 85 microns and 15,000 litres per square metre per second, the standard cloth at 80 and 5,050, the fine nonwoven at 14 and 1,800, and this mat at 7 and 560. Finer holds more back and lets less through, all the way down, and each step is paid for in the same currency. Nobody has to trust an inference to read that: it is one part with four fillings.
The comparison that has plenty
What none of those figures does is describe your motorcycle. Flow is quoted per square metre of medium; how much area is folded into this housing is not published, and neither is what a 990 draws through it under any particular throttle opening. So the honest form of the recommendation is conditional — this material is drawn for air with a visible load in it, and on a road-ridden naked the standard weave is the better answer. What can be said flatly is that no drop-in element makes a standard machine quicker. The dependable benefit is a starting restriction below a paper panel's, restored at every clean rather than surrendered a little at a time.
Care and cleaning
Because the PM175T12 is dry it can come out and go back in the same session. Compressed air at the clean face, worked outward, sends the load back through the surface that arrested it, and that is the whole of a normal service. Heavier loading calls for tepid water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, after which the mat needs circulating air and as long as it takes. No heater, no hot-air gun and no flame at any point; refit dry. Sprint Filter's maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
For the KTM 990 Duke, 2024 to 2026, fitted in the unmodified original airbox. Four machines are listed against this code — the 790, the 890 in its three forms, and the two 990s — and the Fitment tab names each with its years. Since one housing serves several engine sizes, order by element code and model year rather than by the badge on the tank.
