The RX is the CRF250 built for events run against a clock rather than a gate drop: cross-country and off-road races covered in one stint of two or three hours, a good part of it inside the dust hanging over the riders in front. That changes what the air filter is being asked to do. A moto is short enough that almost any element survives it in decent shape; a long race is long enough that the state of the element at the finish is the only state that matters, and there is no point on the course where the airbox gets opened. The Sprint Filter T12 SM248T12 is specified for that end of the sport — a dry polyester special non-woven filtering to 7 microns.
Key Features
- No oil to apply before a race, and none to travel into the intake tract during one
- Dry polyester special non-woven, 7 microns: off-road, desert, extreme conditions
- 560 l/m²/sec of rated flow: the fine weave holds more and passes less, by design
- A direct replacement in the standard airbox: no modification, no remapping
- Compressed air brings it back; it is not a part that gets thrown away
- Two years of cover, counted from the day of purchase
Exposure is counted in hours, not in laps
Dust loading is a function of how long the machine spends in dirty air, and a cross-country rider running mid-pack spends all of it there — breathing the accumulated cloud of everybody ahead, on trail that never gets watered between sessions. The fineness of the T12 is what makes it defensible over that distance. What a 7 micron medium takes out is the fraction that stays suspended longest, which is precisely the fraction still hanging two minutes after the pack has gone through and the visible grit has already fallen back down. The price is stated plainly rather than hidden: 560 l/m²/sec against 1,800 for the P14 and 5,050 for the P08. Finer retention is paid for in flow, always, and that is the deal being made here deliberately.
All the work happens between the races
Because nothing can be done to the element while the race is running, every bit of filter maintenance falls into the time between events — and a dry, washable medium is easy to fit into that window. The one thing that cannot be hurried is drying, so a second element in the toolbox is worth more here than on a machine that races in short bursts. The SM248T12 goes into the standard airbox exactly as the original element does, so there is nothing to adapt and nothing about the intake that changes.
Care and cleaning
All of it happens between events. Compressed air from the clean side outwards is the routine; lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear, is the deeper option. Drying cannot be hurried — open air only, never heat, never a flame. Whatever goes back into the airbox goes back dry and unoiled. The element is designed to last the life of the motorcycle; the maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Honda CRF250RX from 2022 to 2026. The same element serves four machines in the CRF competition range; the full list is in the Fitment tab.
