The FZ-07 badge causes more trouble at a parts counter than it should. Order by part number, not by badge

Platform parts age better than model parts. A consumable made for one model designation gets scarce as that designation leaves the price list; a consumable shared by seven machines stays in production because demand keeps arriving from several directions at once. For an owner, that is the difference between a routine order and a search. It also makes cross-checking easy: if a listing covers the MT-07 and the XSR 700 and gives the same number, the airbox is the same airbox.

What changes inside the standard airbox

Nothing external. The element drops into the standard housing, the lid closes on the standard fasteners, and the intake noise, the fuelling and the approval status of the motorcycle are exactly as they were. What is different is the medium: woven polyester threads from ø 22 microns instead of pressed cellulose, with roughly twice the filtering surface, filtering at 80 microns and flowing 5,050 litres per square metre per second. It is never oiled, so there is no oil film upstream of the sensors, and it is washed and refitted rather than binned — Sprint Filter design it to last the life of the motorcycle. What it does not do is make a standard bike measurably faster, and it is worth being plain about that.

Care and cleaning

Routine service is compressed air, entering at the clean side and travelling outwards. Where a deeper clean is due, the element is washed in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear and left to dry fully in open air, with heat and flame kept away from it.
