The Gaokin Flame is a niche badge, and for a niche badge the interesting question about any service part is not how well it works but whether it will still be orderable in five years. This element answers that in an unusual way: CM136S is a cleaned-and-refitted part, not a consumable, so after the purchase the Flame's intake is no longer tied to a spares pipeline at all.

A part that stops being a consumable

A paper element has a service life measured in kilometres and ends in a bin; every interval is another order, another lead time, another chance that the number has been discontinued. A washable weave changes the unit of account. The same panel comes out, gets cleaned, and goes back in, and the intake stops depending on whether a distributor still stocks a filter for a 500 cm³ machine that never sold in large numbers. For an owner outside the Flame's core markets that is the practical argument, and it has nothing to do with performance.

Shared housing, separate ownership

CM136S is also listed for the Brixton Crossfire/X and for the Honda CBR500R and CB500F of 2013 to 2018, which is why the code exists at this price at all — three model lines carrying one part number keep it in production. It is worth being precise about what that sharing means. It means the housing accepts the same element. It does not mean the machines are equivalent, and it does not make a filter bought for one of them a tuning part on another. In an unmodified airbox this element leaves a standard Flame exactly as strong as it was; the gain is a lower, steadier intake restriction over the whole service interval.

Care and cleaning

Blow the CM136S out with compressed air from the clean side, working outwards, and the everyday load leaves without any liquid involved. When the surface stays grey after that, lukewarm water and a mild detergent take the rest; rinse until the runoff is clear. Then dry it in moving air at room temperature only — no heat gun, no radiator, no flame, because the weave is damaged long before the damage is visible.
