MT-Helmets Aeris Cover C8 Jet Helmet – Matt Pink / Violet

Cover C8 is the Aeris with a gradient: a pale, almost white crown running down into magenta and then deep violet across the rear quarter. It is the most colourful helmet MT sells at this price, and it is a jet — which means one thing has to be said before anything else.

About the Cover C8 finish

The shell starts near-white at the brow and steps through a soft pink into magenta, then into a saturated violet that wraps the back of the helmet. The transition is worked in bands rather than a smooth fade, which keeps it crisp on a matt surface where a true gradient would go muddy.

The vent trims and the visor mechanism stay gloss black, and the MT logo sits small on the side in white. Matt over a colour this strong is the harder finish to produce and the easier one to live with: it does not throw a hotspot into every photograph, and it hides the fine handling marks a jet collects from being carried by the strap.

What an open-face helmet cannot do

There is no chin bar. In a frontal impact the chin and jaw take a large share of the load, and on a jet they are unprotected. That is the category, not a fault of this helmet — but it is the first thing you should weigh, before colour and before price.

A jet buys you air, an open field of view and a helmet you can hold a conversation in. It does not buy full-face protection at a lower price. If most of your riding is fast road or motorway, buy a full-face; we would rather sell you the right helmet than the prettier one.

Colour and being seen

A pale crown with a saturated rear is a genuinely useful combination in traffic, and not for the reason people assume. What a driver registers at a junction is contrast against the background, not brightness in isolation — and a helmet that is light on top and strongly coloured behind reads as an object rather than as part of the scene.

It is still not fluorescent and it does nothing after dark. Reflective material on the jacket and a working headlight do the night-time work; a paint scheme does the daylight work.

ECE 22.06 — the floor this clears

The current European standard, mandatory since January 2024, tests harder than the 22.05 it replaced: 18 impact points instead of five, several speeds, an oblique impact against an abrasive anvil for rotational loading, and a Brain Injury Criterion limit. MT additionally lists DOT for the Aeris.

On a jet, 22.06 certifies the area the shell actually covers. It does not certify a chin bar that is not there.

The foam under the shell

Inside sits EPS in graded densities — the foam is tuned zone by zone rather than moulded as one uniform block. On an open-face there is markedly less material between skull and road than in a full-face, so how that little is graded carries more of the load than it would on a bigger helmet.

Two shell sizes, seven helmet sizes

MT moulds the Aeris in two outer shells across a range from XXS to XXL.

Honest consequence: the difference between sizes inside one shell is made up in padding. Towards the small end of a shell the helmet sits slightly larger on the head than the label suggests, and the fit at a shell boundary is approximate. Order the size the chart gives you, and if you fall between two, take the smaller — new padding settles a few millimetres in the first hours of riding.

The V-26 visor

A long V-26 visor in impact-resistant material with high optical quality, on a mechanism finished with the MT logo. It is a large screen for a jet and it is a large part of why the helmet looks the way it does.

There is no drop-down sun visor. A smoked V-26 is available separately and is not in the box — budget for it if you ride into low evening sun.

Ventilation

Upper intakes with a rear extraction. On an open-face the aperture does most of the cooling, so the vent system exists for the crown — which is exactly where a jet gets hot when you are stopped in traffic on a July afternoon.

Interior and closure

The lining is anti-allergenic, removable and washable. That matters more on a jet than on a full-face: more air crosses it, there is less of it, and it takes the sweat from short summer trips.

The micrometric buckle was reworked by MT's engineers: it steps one tooth at a time and can be done up with gloves on, which is what a helmet fastened several times a day needs.

What it does not have

• No chin bar. See above.
• No sun visor. Tinted V-26 sold separately.
• No independent safety rating. SHARP has not tested the Aeris; no ADAC and no Snell result exists. Untested is not the same as poorly rated, and we will not borrow another MT model's stars.
• Strong colour ages differently. Magenta and violet pigments are less UV-stable than greys — store it out of direct sun and it keeps its depth for years.

Where it sits

€79.95 puts this near the bottom of our MT jet range, with the Street S and Viale SV S above and the Cosmo SV at the top — the Cosmo being the one that brings a retractable sun shade, a tool-free screen mechanism and a detachable rear deflector.

The question worth asking is whether you want a sun visor. If yes, spend up. If no, the Aeris clears the same ECE 22.06 floor with the more interesting shell.
