The figure that sells this element is 15,000 l/m²/sec, and the first honest thing to say about it is what the unit describes: a rate measured across a square metre of the cloth itself. It is not a quantity of air any engine has been promised. The Superquadro in the 899 is the smallest motor on this fitment list, and what it draws is settled by bore, cam timing and throttle opening long before the weave in front of it gets a vote. R127S F1-85-SBK lifts one ceiling in the intake path; the others stay where they are.
Key Features
- Carbon fibre frame carrying the medium — a WorldSBK assembly rather than a moulded panel
- Dry woven polyester, supplied without oil and never oiled afterwards
- F1-85 racing weave: 85 µm apertures rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec, the fastest medium in the range
- The standard P08 cloth for this housing is rated 5,050 l/m²/sec, roughly a third of that
- Takes the factory panel's place in the unmodified series airbox — no cutting, no remap
- Washed and refitted for the life of the machine; two years of warranty from purchase
A ceiling is not a delivery
Three times the flow rating does not mean three times the air. The rating describes how freely the material passes air when air is forced at it; what actually crosses the airbox of an 899 depends on how wide the throttle is and for how long it stays there. Ordinary road use spends nearly all of its time far below any ceiling either cloth offers. So the plainest sentence about this part is a negative one: an insert filter in a standard airbox does not make a standard Panigale 899 noticeably faster. What it does is hold intake resistance low and keep it there between services, because the medium is restored rather than left to load up.
What the frame adds to the bill
The price of this item is not a filtration price. A conventional P08 panel exists for the same airbox at roughly a fifth of it. The difference is construction: a carbon fibre frame that holds the weave at a fixed tension and keeps its sealing shape through dozens of removal and washing cycles. It also sits at more than five times a typical element in the Sprint Filter range. On a machine stripped and cleaned often that is defensible; on one that sees a workshop once a year it is not.
Care and cleaning
Compressed air does the regular work. Hold the assembly by its frame, put the nozzle against the clean face and blow outward, so what the cloth caught leaves by the side it arrived on. When a wet spell has left a film that air will not lift, hand-warm water with a little mild detergent will, rinsed until the run-off is clear. Drying happens in moving air and nowhere else: no heat gun, no radiator, no flame, since heat ruins polyester. It goes back dry and untreated; the maintenance sheet is filed under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the airbox of the Ducati Panigale 899, listed here under model years 2013 to 2015. Six Ducatis share this assembly: the 899, 959, 1199 and 1299 Superquadro twins plus the Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2 of 955 cc. Attributed years are in the Fitment tab.
