DescriptionThe whole story▼
The JP ES 011 closes the 690 SMC R's sidestand loop so it runs with the stand gone.

Seventeen Inch Wheels
Enduro chassis, road tyres and a huge front brake. The SMC R exists to be ridden on tarmac in a way that no road bike is set up for.
Why the Stand Comes Off
Ground clearance at lean angles a supermoto reaches routinely. It is among the first things removed and it takes its switch with it.
The Loop Breaks
Sidestand, clutch and gear position are wired as one chain. Remove a link and the engine stops the instant a gear is selected.
Restoring It
This unit completes the chain the controller expects. No warning appears, nothing is stored and no dealer visit is required.
Front Brake Above Everything
A single 320 mm disc and a Brembo caliper on a very light motorcycle. Supermoto riding is about the front brake and KTM specified accordingly.
Dropped Regularly
These bikes go down at low speed more often than any road machine. Fewer components low on the left side means fewer things to replace afterwards.
A Long Production Run
KTM has kept the SMC R current for well over a decade with steady refinement rather than redesign. Nothing else in the class has lasted as long.
Five Minutes
One plug near the swingarm pivot, no bodywork to remove and no tools worth mentioning.
Nothing Spliced
KTM's own connector. The switch goes back with the stand whenever the bike returns to the road.
Not a Road Modification
On a registered supermoto that still has a stand, the loop earns its place. It should stay connected.
A Hundred and Forty-Seven Kilograms
Dry, with a 74 horsepower single. The power figure is unremarkable and the power to weight ratio is not, which is why an SMC R embarrasses considerably faster motorcycles on any road with corners in it and why so many end up being ridden hard.
