DescriptionThe whole story▼
Two part numbers cover the 2020 to 2024 Z900, and they are not the same. This one is listed for 2017 through 2024 and was measured on the earlier full-power machine; S-K9SO7-ASZT covers 2020 to 2024 and was measured on that generation. The figures differ, and so does the fitting time.
Key Features
- 1.54 kg fitted where Kawasaki's own silencer weighs 4.41
- Output reaches 120.1 PS from a standard 116.9, read at 10,200 rpm
- Torque climbs to 96.4 Nm from 94.6 at 8,750 rpm
- Titanium body finished with a carbon fibre end cap
- Plug and play — no remapping needed
- Removable noise insert supplied
- Built for markets where EC/ECE approval is not required
Which of the Two to Order
If your Z900 is a 2017, 2018 or 2019 machine, this is the only choice. If it is 2020 to 2024, both part numbers are listed for it and the difference is which generation Akrapovic put on the dyno.
We would take this one for an early bike and S-K9SO7-ASZT for a later one, because each was measured on the machine it was developed against. Ask us if you are unsure — the frame number settles it.
An Export Specification
Akrapovic states the exhaust is designed for markets where EC/ECE type approvals are not required, or for track-day use. In Germany that makes it a circuit part, and no paperwork changes that.
Akrapovic also notes that the system was developed and tested on EU vehicle specification, and that fitment and performance outside the EU may vary. For a bike bought new here, that caveat does not apply.
No Mapping Work
A slip-on leaves the catalytic converter and the headers in place, so the engine management sees what it expects. Akrapovic confirms no remapping is needed — the silencer goes on and the bike runs.
A Note on the Header
Akrapovic adds that the optional headers do not fit the Z900 A2 model. If you intend to build a full system later and your bike is the restricted version, the header you need is E-K9R5 rather than the full-power part.
Forty Minutes, Not Thirty
The 2017 to 2019 Z900 mounts its silencer differently from the later machine, and the bracket takes ten minutes longer to work around. Not difficult, just slower.
The Sound
Akrapovic describes the result as louder, deeper and crisper than standard. Without a European noise figure to hit, the internals could be opened further than an approved silencer allows — which is where both the sound and the missing approval come from.
Keep the Original
Kawasaki's silencer is bulky but a Z900 sold with its complete factory exhaust is a noticeably easier sale. Store it rather than discard it.
Sixty-Five Per Cent
4.41 kg standard, 1.54 fitted. That is the largest proportional saving of any Z900 silencer Akrapovic builds, and it comes from the first-generation machine having the heaviest original.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
