DescriptionThe whole story▼
Nearly a quarter of the standard silencer's mass disappears with this one. The Akrapovic Slip-On Line (Carbon) S-B10SO16-HZC brings the S 1000 R down from 2.28 kg to 1.75 kg at the exhaust — 23.2 % — using a carbon fibre outer sleeve over a titanium inner structure and a titanium link pipe. It is the updated design, with a reshaped end cap, and it keeps EC and ECE type approval on the S 1000 R.
Key Features
- Carbon fibre muffler outer sleeve over a titanium internal structure, connected by a high-grade titanium link pipe
- 1.75 kg against the standard 2.28 kg: a 23.2 % reduction, taken off the far right of the bike where it affects how quickly the S 1000 R changes direction
- Reworked end cap shape that distinguishes this generation from the earlier carbon slip-on for the same platform
- A full, intense note at idle that turns into a deep and distinctly Akrapovic tone once the four is running
- EC and ECE type approved, Euro 5 compliant, on the S 1000 R
- Plug-and-play installation in about 20 minutes, no remapping needed
- Can be combined with two optional headers — titanium or stainless steel — for owners who want to go further
Construction and Material Quality
The weight saving on this system comes from the combination rather than from one material. The outer sleeve is carbon fibre, the entire internal structure that carries the gas and the heat is titanium, and the link pipe from the standard header is titanium as well. Steel appears nowhere in the load path, which is why the figure reaches 23.2 % where a carbon sleeve over a steel core would land somewhere around ten.
Carbon on a naked bike is on show from every angle, and the weave here is laid so that the pattern runs cleanly along the muffler body rather than breaking at the clamp. The end cap is a new shape for this generation, squarer and shorter, which visually shortens the tail of the S 1000 R.
Performance and Sound
Peak power moves very little — 166.1 PS to 166.2 PS, with a measured gain of 0.5 PS (0.4 kW) at 11,200 rpm, and 0.5 Nm more torque at 9,600 rpm. That is honest: a type-approved slip-on on a Euro 5 four-cylinder is not where large power numbers come from. What it does deliver is half a kilo off the tail and a genuinely different acoustic character, measured at 95.2 dB against the standard 94.9 dB at 5,500 rpm — three tenths of a decibel louder on the meter, and a completely different tone to the ear.
An optional noise damper (V-TUV326) is available if a circuit imposes a stricter limit than the road one this system is built for.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-B10SO16-HZC fits the BMW S 1000 R and the M 1000 R from model year 2021 onwards. On 2025 machines fitted with the mono seat, the standard passenger footpeg bracket is needed to mount the silencer — do not discard it during the conversion. Installing either of the optional headers cancels the EC and ECE type approval of this system.
Road Approval
The system holds EC type approval and ECE type approval. Akrapovic states explicitly that the type approval certificate is not valid for the M 1000 R: the exhaust fits that machine mechanically and is sold for it, but on an M 1000 R it is not a type-approved replacement silencer. Owners of the M should treat it as a track part or clarify the position with their registration authority before riding it on the road.
