DescriptionThe whole story▼
This is the track half of a choice. Akrapovic's slip-on for the Monster cannot be fitted without a link pipe, and it offers two: one with a catalytic converter that keeps the EC and ECE approval, and this one without. Choosing this pipe is choosing to give the approval up.
Key Features
- Titanium link pipe, built without a catalytic converter
- Required to complete an Akrapovic Slip-On Line installation
- Choosing it means the slip-on's road approval no longer applies
- Covers four Monster model names across seven model years
- Akrapovic publishes no weight or performance figures for it
- Closed course competition use only
The Decision This Part Represents
The Akrapovic Slip-On Line for the Monster is sold on its own and cannot be ridden that way — a link pipe or the Evolution header has to come with it. That choice, made at the checkout, decides whether the finished exhaust is road legal.
The catalytic version keeps the EC and ECE type approval. This one does not, and the motorcycle becomes a track machine. Both pipes fit the same silencer and look almost identical; only the internals differ.
What Is Not Inside
A converter, and its housing. That is where the weight and the restriction of the approved version sit, and removing them is the whole point of this pipe.
Akrapovic publishes no weight or power comparison for it, so nothing is quoted here. What the manufacturer states is the construction: titanium, no catalytic converter.
Four Names, Two Capacities
The pipe covers the Monster 1200 and 1200 S, the more powerful Monster 1200 R, and the smaller Monster 821. Ducati kept the same exhaust route across the 1,198 cc and 821 cc L-twins, so one pipe serves the range from 2014 to 2020.
A Third Option Exists
Akrapovic lists the Evolution header as an alternative to either link pipe. That is a larger and more expensive change, replacing the section from the cylinder heads back rather than only the piece behind them, and it carries no approval either.
Between the three, this pipe is the cheapest route to a track exhaust: the muffler you were buying anyway, plus the least amount of pipework that will connect it.
The Sound
A converter is a substantial silencer in its own right, and removing one from an L-twin changes the character of the exhaust more than most riders expect. This is the configuration people mean when they talk about how an Akrapovic Monster sounds.
It is also why the part has no approval, and why it belongs on a circuit.
Buy Them Together
The slip-on and the pipe are separate orders. Anyone budgeting from the silencer's price alone will be short, and anyone who orders only the silencer will have a motorcycle that cannot be ridden.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use, and it removes the basis on which the slip-on was approved.
