DescriptionThe whole story▼
Developed for the R9 running Yamaha's own GYTR racing electronics and parts. That is the condition Akrapovic states, and it changes who this exhaust is for: not an owner who wants a louder R9, but one building a bike to a race specification.
Key Features
- Developed for machines with GYTR electronics and GYTR parts
- Complete Evolution Line system in high-grade titanium
- Different alloys used in different sections, chosen for performance, weight and durability
- Competition use only
- No road approval of any kind
What GYTR Means Here
Genuine Yamaha Technology Racing is Yamaha's own competition parts programme — ECUs, wiring, suspension internals and bodywork for machines built to race. An R9 with the GYTR package is a different motorcycle from a showroom R9 in everything the exhaust interacts with.
Akrapovic designed this system for that state. On a standard R9 it will physically fit, but the mapping it was developed against is not the one in a road bike's ECU.
The Rest of the R9 Range
If you are not building a GYTR machine, Akrapovic also builds the Racing Line S-Y9R21-EET for this motorcycle, and the track day link pipe L-Y9R1/TD lowers the noise of that system for circuits with strict limits.
That combination is the one most R9 trackday riders want. This system is a step beyond it.
Different Alloys, Different Sections
Akrapovic states the system uses high-grade titanium with different alloys in specific sections, chosen to optimise performance, weight and durability. That is the same approach as the motocross Evolution Lines: material specified per section rather than one grade throughout.
No Published Figures
Akrapovic records no weight, power or torque for this part. On a system developed for a bike whose electronics and internals are themselves variable, that is a defensible omission rather than an oversight — and we would rather report the gap than fill it with a guess.
The R9 Is a New Platform
Yamaha introduced the YZF-R9 for 2024 around the 890 cc CP3 triple, and it arrived with a GYTR programme from the start — Yamaha positioned the bike for club racing and trackdays rather than as a road sportsbike with a race option bolted on afterwards.
That is why a competition exhaust exists for it this early in its life.
Titanium Throughout
The complete system is titanium — headers, link pipes and muffler. On a competition part the material is not chosen for cost but for the temperature each section sees, and Akrapovic varies the alloy accordingly.
Against the Racing Line
Akrapovic builds two competition systems for the R9. The Racing Line S-Y9R21-EET is the one most trackday riders fit; this Evolution Line sits above it, developed against the GYTR package rather than against a standard bike.
Both are titanium and neither is road legal. The difference is which machine they were designed around.
