DescriptionThe whole story▼

Yamaha's R1 has carried the crossplane engine concept since its most recent generation began in 2007, though the nameplate itself stretches back through the YZF 1000 R1 Thunderace of the late 1990s. Accossato's FP006 oil filler cap, CNC-machined aluminium anodised in eight colours with an M26x3 thread, fits the engine across that long history.

Key Features

  • Oil filler cap for the Yamaha R1, 1996 to 2003 and 2007 to 2021
  • M26x3 thread, the size Accossato states
  • CNC-machined aluminium with an anodised finish
  • Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
  • Also fits other motorcycles sharing the same filler thread
  • TS005 front brake fluid reservoir cap listed for the same R1
  • Suits a bike with one of the longest continuous histories in its class
  • No German ABE on file; built for track and competition use

Construction and Material Quality

A block of aluminium passes through CNC machining to become the FP006, with anodising afterwards giving the cap a colour that lives inside the metal rather than as paint laid over it. The M26x3 thread is the sole figure in Accossato's description; past it, fit depends entirely on the application list. A rider tracking an R1 in its original racing livery tends to pick titanium, black or silver, while orange, red, blue, green or gold separate one grid entry from the next identical machine beside it.

A Long History at the Filler

An R1 from any point across its long run asks the same basic patience of its owner at the filler, whatever the model year on the tank badge. Wait for the engine to cool down properly, and note the level first, exactly as the handbook sets it out with the bike standing level. A wipe around the opening before the old cap lifts away keeps grit from dropping into the oil, and the thread and sealing face on both halves deserve a look while exposed. Add any top-up gradually, then turn the FP006 home by hand until it stops with ease, going no further than that.

Fitment and Compatibility

The Yamaha R1 across its 1998 to 2003 and 2007 to 2021 years, together with the 1996 to 1998 Thunderace, sits on Accossato's list for the FP006, a cap it shares with the FJR1300A, the MT-07, the R1M and the R6, among further Yamaha models wherever that M26x3 filler appears. A front brake fluid reservoir cap, the TS005, is Accossato's other listing for this R1.

Road Approval

Accossato has given us no test or approval paperwork for the FP006, so it is offered for racing and closed-course use rather than German road use.
