DescriptionThe whole story▼
Sport tourers like the Tracer 900 are often ridden in company: a club outing, a weekend with friends, a guided tour. Group riding has a rhythm of its own, and much of it is set by the clutch. Speeds stretch and compress along the line of bikes, and every compression means feathering the clutch or dropping a gear. The Accossato ESV004 is a CNC-machined aluminium clutch lever for the Tracer 900 of 2015 to 2020, with adjustable reach so that constant clutch work stays comfortable.
Key Features
- ESV004 clutch lever for the Tracer 900 and MT-09 Tracer, 2015 to 2020
- Replaces the original lever at the clutch mounting
- Reach adjustable near the pivot
- Choice of short, standard (approx. 138 mm) or long blade
- Aluminium, CNC-machined, anodised
- Black hub with the blade in one of seven colours
- Fixed one-piece blade
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato makes the ESV004 by machining aluminium on CNC equipment and anodising the result. The hub, black on every version, holds the pivot and the reach adjuster; the blade is anodised in black, silver, red, blue, gold, green or orange. The anodised layer belongs to the metal rather than sitting on top of it, so it keeps its colour in rain and sun and is simply wiped clean. There is no hinge in the lever. A single rigid piece connects your fingers to the clutch, and the engagement point stays where it was set.
Group Rides and the Accordion Effect
In a group, speed changes travel backwards along the line. The leader brakes gently for a bend, the riders in the middle brake a little harder, and those at the back may almost stop before the group stretches out again. Riders call it the accordion effect, and in towns and on twisting roads it means the clutch is used far more often than when riding alone. Every time the gap closes, the left hand feathers the clutch to hold a steady walking pace or to drop a gear without a jolt. A lever at the edge of your reach turns that into hard work over a day. Set the ESV004 so that your fingers rest lightly on it when you cover the clutch, and consider the long blade for a lighter pull. Keeping a sensible gap to the bike in front reduces the effect, both for you and for everyone behind. Ridden that way, with a relaxed left hand, the slow parts of a group ride on the Tracer 900 become as easy as the fast ones.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESV004 for the Tracer 900 from 2015 to 2020 and mounts it in place of the original lever. For the early part of that period, 2015 to 2017, a second clutch lever also appears on Accossato's list, the ESY688, so owners of those bikes should compare the photos of both with the lever fitted to their Tracer. On the brake side, the EDF016 covers the full 2015 to 2020 span.
Road Approval
A German ABE for the ESV004 is not documented, and we sell it for track use.
