The 85-micron rating on this element is not a cost that falls due this season. Nothing about a Speed Triple RS will feel different for it, and nothing will look different when the airbox is opened next spring. The five microns the Sprint Filter P08 F1-85 concedes against the standard P08 are settled much later, as wear on bores and rings, by whoever owns the engine when the account is finally presented. That makes this a decision about how long you intend to keep the motorcycle, not about how it runs on Sunday.
Key Features
- Dry polyester in the racing specification: 85 microns of maximum aperture, no oil at any stage
- Rated at 15,000 l/m²/sec against 5,050 for the standard P08 — the whole point of the medium
- Retention measured at 95.22 % on 100-micron particles, so the coarse end is well held
- Twice the media area, give or take, of a conventional performance element
- Slots into the series airbox as it left the factory, with no remap needed
- Washed rather than thrown away, and warranted for two years from the day you buy it
Why racing accepts the bill
A competition engine is stripped on a calendar written in running hours, and refreshed before the fine mineral fraction has had time to become measurable wear. Under that regime the extra five microns never turn into a number anyone reads, while the flow reserve is there for every session. Take the element out of that regime and put it in a road engine that has to last, and the arithmetic reverses: the reserve is called on rarely, the aperture is open on every stroke. The condition is therefore not the machine but the maintenance behind it — an engine serviced by hours, not by odometer.
Whose account it lands on
The 1050 RS ran for three model years, 2018 to 2020, before the 1200 took the name, and those bikes are moving to second and third keepers. If you plan to hold on to yours, the deferred cost is yours and you can carry it with open eyes. If it goes up for sale next spring, the trade is being carried by the next owner, and the 80-micron P08 or the 14-micron P14 is the more defensible choice. The comfort is that nothing here is irreversible: the element is washable and made to outlast the bike, so a change of mind costs only the swap.
Care and cleaning
Most of the job is done by compressed air, aimed at the clean face so grit is pushed back out the way it entered, and it can be repeated as often as you like. When air alone stops being enough, warm water and a mild detergent finish the job. Keep heat guns and flames well away — it dries in ambient air and goes back in dry. It is listed as PM193S F1-85, and the maintenance sheet sits in the Downloads tab of this page.
Fitment & Compatibility
This page covers the 1050 Triumph Speed Triple RS of 2018 to 2020. Three machines share the element: the Speed Triple R (2016–2017), the Speed Triple RS (2018–2020) and the Speed Triple S (2016–2020). The 1200 RS from 2021 on is a different motorcycle with a different airbox, so match the capacity as well as the name.
