Guarding at the Chain Is Not Optional
Construction rules in several markets require the chain to be shielded where a person could reach it. That is why the standard part exists and why this one reproduces its coverage rather than trimming it back for looks.
Anyone tempted to run without one should know that an inspector will notice, and that a trouser leg finding a moving chain is a genuinely serious event rather than an inconvenience.
Where the Grime Goes Instead
Without a guard, chain lube ends up across the swingarm and up the side of the tail. With one, most of it lands on a part that costs a fraction of a swingarm to clean or replace.
