DescriptionThe whole story▼
A long day on a Tuareg 660 rarely has one kind of weather in it. The morning starts cold in a valley, the middle of the day is hot on a dry pass, and somewhere in the afternoon a shower catches the bike and leaves the discs wet for the next hour. What the front brake has to do is behave the same through all of it. Accossato's ST compound is described as holding a high and constant grip level at high and low temperatures alike and as gripping well in the wet, and this article puts it on the AGPA92 pad for the Aprilia Tuareg 660 of 2022 to 2025.
Key Features
- Front pads for the Aprilia Tuareg 660, model years 2022 to 2025
- Sintered (ST) compound as a separate article
- Accossato's description: constant grip cold and hot, and bite on a wet disc
- Two pads to a box; the Tuareg 660 has two front calipers
- Fits the standard front calipers of the bike
- Rear of the same machine: Accossato AGPP91
- Accossato holds no disc for the Tuareg 660, so the original discs remain
- No German ABE or test mark on record; competition and track use
Construction and Material Quality
The selling point of ST, as Accossato puts it, is that the grip level does not move: high when the pad is cold, high when it is hot, and still there on a wet disc. That is a useful property on a bike ridden through whole days rather than in short hops. A Tuareg 660 loaded for a trip meets a cold descent at seven in the morning and a hot one at four in the afternoon, and the rider should not have to adapt to a brake that feels different in each case. The company also says the design keeps heat within limits, which is the reason it gives for the pads fading little.
Four Seasons Before Lunch
Riders who cover distance learn to read the road surface rather than the sky. A dry road in a shaded gorge stays damp long after the sun is out, a pass that was warm on the way up can be wet on the far side, and the first bend after a tunnel is a different surface from the last one before it. The front brake is the tool that copes with the surprise, which is why friction material that responds the same at any temperature is worth more on a tour than something brilliant in one narrow band.
The rider does the other half. Slowing happens earlier and in a straight line where the surface is unknown, the fingers stay ready on the lever through villages, and the first application after a long descent in rain is a light one to wipe the discs. On a bike carrying luggage, all of this needs a little more room than the same rider would use solo.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's data behind the AGPA92 names the Tuareg 660 of 2022 to 2025, one entry, no sub-versions. Both front calipers take the same pad and both should be renewed at the same time, which makes two boxes for the front axle. The AGPP91 is the article for the rear wheel. The disc range does not extend to this Aprilia, so the factory discs stay where they are.
Road Approval
Neither an ABE nor a test mark is documented for this pad on our side. It is therefore sold for racing and competition rather than for public roads.
Scope of Delivery
Two Sintered (ST) pads in the box, enough for one front caliper.
