DescriptionThe whole story▼
With its round twin headlights and large front wheel, the Desert X looks back to the desert rallies of the late 1980s and 1990s, when big twin-cylinder machines raced across the Sahara. Ducati launched it in 2022 with the 937 Testastretta engine, and many owners take it far from the nearest dealer. Out there, looking after the bike becomes the rider's own job, and the oil check becomes part of every day. Accossato lists the FP004 for the Desert X of 2022 to 2024: an aluminium oil filler cap, CNC-machined and anodised, with an M20x2.5 thread.
Key Features
- Oil filler cap for the Ducati Desert X, 2022 to 2024
- Thread M20x2.5, as specified by Accossato
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised
- Colours: gold, black, silver, titanium, red, orange, blue, green
- Adaptable to other bikes with the same cap size, subject to a check
- Matches Accossato's TS012 rear brake reservoir cap for the Desert X
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
The FP004 is made of aluminium, machined to shape on CNC equipment and finished by anodising, which also sets its colour. Eight are offered: gold, black, silver, titanium, red, orange, blue and green. Accossato specifies an M20x2.5 thread and says the cap suits the applications on its list as well as other motorcycles with a cap of that size. On an adventure bike whose filler is often opened outdoors, a clean thread matters more than any colour, so wipe it and the sealing face every time the cap comes out.
Looking After the Bike Yourself
The great desert rallies have long had a class for riders who compete without a support crew. They carry their own spares and tools, and after each stage they look after their bikes themselves, often in the dark, before they sleep. A Desert X on a long trip across empty country puts its rider in a gentler version of the same position. The routine that works is simple and unhurried. Read the level each day in exactly the way the owner's manual prescribes, with the bike standing as it specifies; on uneven ground, find the flattest patch you can or ask someone to hold the bike. If oil has to go in, wait until the engine is switched off and cool before opening the filler. Sand and fine dust are the main enemy, so brush and wipe around the filler before the cap comes out, and keep the cap somewhere clean, in a pocket or a glove, rather than on the ground. Pour slowly through a clean funnel, a little at a time, and read the level again. Turn the FP004 back in by hand until it seats, without force. After the engine has run, a look at the cap and the crankcase around it confirms that everything has stayed dry.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the FP004 for the Desert X 937 from 2022 to 2024. The cap is identified by its M20x2.5 thread, and Accossato adds that it can be adapted to other motorcycles with the same cap size. At Inter-Pace it is also catalogued for the Diavel, the Monster 1200 and the Hypermotard 950. For the Desert X, Accossato additionally offers the TS012 rear brake fluid reservoir cap; all seven of its colours are also available for the FP004, so both can match. If you are unsure about the thread on your engine, compare it with the original cap before ordering.
Road Approval
We have no ABE or other approval document for the FP004. It is therefore listed in our shop for racing and competition.
