DescriptionThe whole story▼
Ask a pillion what makes a good rider and the answer is often: not noticing the gear changes. On the XT1200ZE Super Ténéré, a bike built to cover distance two-up with full luggage, every change of gear is a chance for the passenger's helmet to nod into yours. Smooth changes come from the left hand as much as from the foot. Accossato's ESC777 supports that: listed for the XT1200ZE from 2014 to 2020, it is a machined aluminium clutch lever with an adjustable span that puts the clutch where your fingers are most precise.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Yamaha XT1200ZE Super Ténéré (2014 to 2020)
- Replaces the stock lever at the original clutch mounting
- Span to the grip adjustable
- Long blade in orange, green, gold and blue for a lighter pull
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm, short blade in five colours
- Machined from aluminium; anodised black hub and coloured blade
- No folding joint, one rigid piece
Construction and Material Quality
On the ESC777, the reach adjuster sits in the hub near the pivot, out of the way of your fingers, and the hub itself is anodised black. The blade, anodised in the colour you choose, runs from there to the tip as one fixed piece, without a folding joint. Accossato machines the whole lever from aluminium on CNC equipment. The result is a clutch lever that gives the same response to the same movement every time, which is exactly what smooth, unnoticed gear changes rely on.
Gear Changes Your Passenger Will Not Notice
A jerky gear change has two causes: drive that disappears too suddenly and drive that returns too suddenly. The foot does the selecting, but the transitions are made with the throttle and the clutch. For smooth upshifts with a passenger, roll the throttle off gently, pull the clutch just far enough to free the drive, select the gear and let the lever out progressively as the throttle opens again. Downshifts need the same care in reverse, with a blip of throttle to match the revs. All of this is easier with a short, precise movement at the lever, so set the ESC777 where your fingers can make that movement without stretching. Riders who want less effort over a long day can choose the long blade. On a loaded XT1200ZE, a smooth rhythm soon becomes second nature, and the person behind you simply enjoys the view.
Fitment and Compatibility
Here the ESC777 is offered for the XT 1200 ZE from 2014, when the ZE arrived, to 2020; Accossato's own entry begins earlier, before this version existed. It mounts at the original clutch mounting and replaces the stock lever. Accossato also lists a second clutch lever for the ZE, the ESY688, but only for the Raid Edition of 2018 and 2019; owners of that version should compare their original lever with the product photos. The brake lever for the XT1200ZE is Accossato's EDF016, covering 2014 to 2020.
Road Approval
Sold for track use: there is no German ABE documented for this ESC777.
