A racing specification is written for a situation with other people in it. Everyone on a grid accepts the same compromise because the alternative is being beaten by somebody who accepted it first. That is the frame this medium was drawn inside, and it is worth holding up against a ZT 310-R before anything is ordered, because a road motorcycle has no grid.
Key Features
- Dry polyester in racing specification: 85 µm of filtration, 15,000 l/m²/sec of rated flow
- Three times the flow rating of the standard P08, which is quoted at 5,050 l/m²/sec in this same housing
- Manufacturer comparison: 95.22 % of 100-micron particles held back, against 93.13 % for the P08
- Roughly twice the filtering area of an ordinary performance element
- Replaces the series panel directly — the airbox, the inlet tract and the mapping are all left alone
- No oil is used on it at any point; cleaned with compressed air and reused, two years of warranty
A choice made against other people
In competition the reasoning is relative. If an opened weave hands back a fraction of intake capacity, and the price is a slightly larger share of fine mineral dust reaching the engine, that price gets paid by everybody who wants the fraction — and an engine stripped between events was never being asked to survive a decade. Lift the same element out of that setting and the relative half of the argument vanishes with it. The capacity remains, and nobody is racing you for it. The opened mesh remains too, now measured against a motorcycle expected to keep running for years.
What the published numbers do and do not settle
The flow figure describes what the material is able to pass, not what an engine will ask of it, and a slot-in element adds no power to a standard ZT 310-R in any case. The retention comparison is easy to misread as well: 95.22 % against 93.13 % is measured on 100-micron dust, which is coarse, and it says nothing at all about the fine fraction where an open weave is weakest and where the finer media in the range are aimed. Read together, the two figures describe a medium built for capacity under sustained heavy demand — a description that fits a race engine and does not fit a road 310.
Care and cleaning
Servicing means compressed air, applied to the clean side and pushed outward through the material so that what was arrested leaves by the face it arrived on. Oily contamination, as distinct from dry dust, comes away under lukewarm water with a little mild detergent, followed by rinsing until nothing further washes out. Drying is done by circulating air at room temperature and by nothing else: heat is what ends an SM277S F1-85. It goes back into the airbox completely dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Zontes ZT 310-R built from 2021 to 2023. The same element code appears against eight other Zontes machines spanning the 250, 310 and 350 classes, from 2019 through to 2026 — nine catalogue lines behind one part.
