Sprint Filter lists four media for this airbox, and their labels are worth reading as a set. Road and Track, Dusty Conditions, Off-Road and Extreme — three descriptions of places. Racing is not a place. It is the only one of the four that names an activity, and so the only one the catalogue cannot decide for you: no route and no fitment row will say whether it applies. PM263S F1-85 is that fourth rung for the Hypermotard 698 Mono, and the person it depends on is the owner.
Key Features
- Dry polyester racing weave rated at 85 µm and 15,000 l/m²/sec, the highest flow figure in the range
- Measured retention of 95.22 % on 100-micron particles, against 93.13 % for the standard P08 weave
- Never oiled — cleaned with air and refitted immediately, with no curing time before the next session
- Fits the series airbox exactly where the standard element sits: no modification, no remapping
- About double the filtering surface of a conventional performance filter
- Serviced rather than replaced, and covered by two years of warranty from the purchase date
What the label is actually claiming
By Sprint Filter's own account this is the medium behind their racing programmes, and that is a manufacturer's statement about use rather than an independent measurement — worth knowing, not worth mistaking for a test result. The data sheet is narrower and more useful: a weave rated at 85 µm, coarser than the standard panel's 80 µm, moving air at three times the standard rate. Coarser and higher-retaining at once is no contradiction — mesh figures and retention percentages come from different measurements — but the racing rung is not simply the standard rung improved.
Who that leaves it to
Rated flow only becomes relevant where an engine is held near the top of its range long enough to want it, and a road-registered supermoto rarely is. Nothing here alters that: an element in an unmodified airbox does not make a standard 698 Mono stronger, and buying the highest flow figure in the catalogue will not change a single lap of ordinary riding. It earns its place on a machine run in repeated sessions on a closed course, cleaned between them and put straight back — dry, with nothing to wait for. For everyone else the standard weave is the honest recommendation.
Care and cleaning
Blow through the PM263S F1-85 from the clean side with compressed air so whatever it has caught leaves the way it came. A greasy deposit that resists air comes off in tepid water with a mild detergent, rinsed until the run-off is colourless. It then dries in moving air at room temperature only — heat guns, radiators and flames are what actually kill polyester, and the failure is not visible from outside. Refit it dry and untouched by any spray or oil. The manufacturer's maintenance sheet is attached in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Catalogued for the Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono built between 2024 and 2026, and for no other model. It is the highest-flowing of four media offered for this single housing; the exact build years are listed in the Fitment tab.
