What It Is
Dimensionally this is 23 mm, 34 mm, 55 mm, which is how it is told apart from the rest of the range. Circlips are single-use in practice: once sprung, they no longer hold their groove reliably. Its length is a specification, not a filler — a millimetre changes what the unit does. Öhlins publishes them in the exploded view so a workshop can order the whole position at once.
Original Öhlins Part
The tolerances here are the ones the unit was assembled to, not a pattern equivalent's interpretation of them. A damper that can be rebuilt is a damper that stays on the bike; that is the whole argument for original service parts. Where a number has been superseded, Öhlins states the replacement — we pass that on. For a full rebuild, the seal kit plus the wear parts is usually the sensible order.
Identifying the Right Part
The reliable route is the exploded drawing: find the position, read the number, order it — 20046-04 in this case. dimension a 23 mm, dimension b 34 mm, dimension c 55 mm is what distinguishes this number from its neighbours in the range. Fasteners in a damper see pressure, heat and vibration at once, which is why the grade matters. Öhlins specifies thread-locking compound by position; not every fastener wants it.
Fitting and Setup Service
Fitting service parts means opening a pressurised unit. As an authorised Öhlins service centre we do that here, with the right tools and a dyno check afterwards — just ask.
