DescriptionThe whole story▼
The K-Tech DDS Closed Cartridge Kit transforms the front fork of your Yamaha YZF-R1 M into a precision damping instrument that works with you mile after mile, lap after lap. Engineered specifically for the RN32, RN49 and RN65 chassis, the pressurised Direct Damping System architecture eliminates the flex and fade that stock cartridges introduce, giving you consistent, confidence-inspiring feedback whether you are threading through a technical mountain road or chasing a lap record at Snetterton.
Key Features
- 30-way independently adjustable compression and rebound damping lets you dial in exactly the ride quality your style and conditions demand — from plush all-day touring to razor-sharp track attack.
- Patented DDS (Direct Damping System) technology with pressurised construction eliminates cavitation, ensuring the damping curve stays consistent from the first corner to the last.
- Asymmetric, independently operating damping circuits deliver noticeably faster response and improved chassis dynamics compared to the OEM cartridge.
- 20 mm piston paired with 31 mm control valves maximises oil flow for precise, fade-free damping control under sustained hard braking and high-speed compression events.
- 8 mm piston rod reduces system offset and contributes to a more linear, predictable stroke throughout the fork's full range of travel.
- Increased stroke over the original cartridge unlocks the fork's full potential — particularly relevant for the YZF-R1 M's high corner-speed track use.
- Race-proven in the British Superbike Championship and the Isle of Man TT — the most demanding environments a fork cartridge can face.
Design and Construction
At the heart of the kit is K-Tech's patented closed-cartridge architecture. By pressurising the internal oil volume, the system prevents the air entrapment that causes conventional cartridges to spike and fade under rapid successive compressions. The result is a damping character that feels the same on the fifteenth braking zone of a race stint as it did on the first. The 20 mm piston bore, matched to the 31 mm control piston, creates a fluid path that is meaningfully larger than the OEM equivalent, allowing the suspension to react and recover at the speed the YZF-R1 M's electronics-assisted chassis demands.
The 18 mm preload adjustment range gives you granular control over initial spring engagement without the coarse, all-or-nothing feel of a standard adjuster. Combined with the included spring selection, this allows a precise static sag setup regardless of rider weight or pillion/luggage configuration.
Track Record
K-Tech suspension components have been campaigned at the very sharp end of British Superbike racing and across the mountain course at the Isle of Man TT — environments where a damping inconsistency is not merely uncomfortable but genuinely dangerous. That heritage feeds directly into a road and track product that demands respect from the R1 M's 200-plus horsepower drivetrain.
Installation Note
Professional installation by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre is strongly recommended. Correct fitment and initial setup are essential to ensure both maximum safety and the full performance benefit this kit is capable of delivering.
