A Hundred and Seventy-Five Cubic Centimetres More
Aprilia took the V4 to 1099 cc for the 2021 redesign, raising output to 217 hp while meeting Euro 5. The engine gained torque everywhere rather than only at the top, which made a difficult motorcycle considerably more usable.
Winglets in the Fairing
The 2021 bike integrates its aerodynamic devices into the bodywork rather than bolting them on, which is both tidier and more effective. Aprilia's MotoGP programme had been developing them for several seasons before they reached the road.
Adjustable in Ways Rivals Are Not
Headstock angle, engine position and swingarm pivot height can all be changed. On a road bike that is close to unique, and it comes directly from a racing department where adapting the chassis to a circuit is routine.
Housing and Switch Together
Aprilia integrates the right-hand controls into the throttle assembly, so replacement covers both. This unit is a single machined body doing that job using the motorcycle's own connector.
Precision Where the Sensor Reads
Electronic throttle since 2011. The bore in which the tube rotates is cut rather than cast in this component, and on a bike whose electronics are calibrated as carefully as the RSV4's that consistency is worth having.
Four Anodised Finishes
Black, blue, red and titanium, converted into the surface. Against Aprilia's own black and red schemes the first two continue what is already on the fairing.
Sealed Construction
Sealed elements inside a one-piece milled body. Track machines are washed hot after every session, and a jet finds the seam in a cast housing with a clipped cover every time. Switchgear of this kind almost never fails mechanically. It fails because water reached a contact, stayed there and corroded it, and the symptom appears months later as something intermittent that nobody traces back to the wash bay.
