DescriptionThe whole story▼
KTM's 690 Duke of 2012 to 2019 puts the LC4, a large single-cylinder engine, into a light and slim naked motorcycle. On a tight, twisty circuit that combination is easy to place and changes direction willingly. A big single also has a habit that its owners soon learn to respect: it sends more vibration through the frame than an engine with more cylinders, and that shapes what they do between sessions. For this Duke, Accossato makes the FC101, a quick-release fuel tank cap milled from aluminium, with a coloured pin on its pawl.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the KTM 690 Duke, 2012 to 2019
- Accossato also lists the ABS models of 2013 to 2016
- Body CNC-machined entirely from aluminium
- Quick-closing pawl for fast opening and closing
- Pin in black, silver, red, blue, gold or green
- Pawl sold separately as a spare part
- No German ABE documented; for circuit use
Construction and Material Quality
Every part of the FC101's body is aluminium, cut on computer-controlled machines, and Accossato promises that the cap is tough and made to last. The shape is one the company has drawn afresh. What you handle at each stop is the pawl: it closes quickly, so the 690 Duke's filler stands open only while fuel is going in. The pin on that pawl carries the colour you order, and the pawl is also the one component Accossato sells on its own, which matters if a fall or a careless knock ever damages it.
A Walk Round the Single After Each Session
Riders who spend their track days on a 690 Duke tend to build a routine for the minutes after each session, and it has to do with the engine. Even with the balancing measures KTM built into the LC4, a big single passes on more vibration than a four, and over a day of hard laps that can loosen what was only nearly tight. So walk round the bike once it is back on its stand and cooling. Start at the front with the axle, the pinch bolts and the caliper mounts, then the lever clamps. Move on to the footrests and the gear linkage, then the exhaust hangers, which lead a hard life on a single. Finish on top of the tank: check that the pawl on the FC101 is fully closed, that the cap sits evenly all the way round and that no fuel has crept out around the rim. A paint-pen line across each important bolt head and its seat speeds the job up, because a line that no longer meets tells you at once that something has moved.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list gives the FC101 for the Duke 690 from 2012 to 2019 and has a second entry for ABS versions of 2013 to 2016; we list the cap for the whole span. In our shop it is also catalogued for the 690 Duke R and, from other makers, for the Aprilia Shiver 900 and the MV Agusta Brutale 800. Please compare your bike with the list before you order.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE or parts certificate on record for the FC101, which makes it a part for closed circuits. The 690 Duke's own cap usually opens with the ignition key, and that is the one to use on public roads.
