DescriptionThe whole story▼
When the Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa arrived in 1999, its rounded, wind-cheating bodywork looked like nothing else on the road, and its name, the Japanese word for the peregrine falcon, left no doubt about its purpose. More than a quarter of a century later, the early bikes have become modern classics, kept and ridden by owners who know every detail of them. On a motorcycle of that age, the front brake lever has usually seen a great deal of weather. The Accossato EDF014 is a CNC-machined aluminium replacement that mounts on the original master cylinder and lets you set the reach for your own hand.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Suzuki Hayabusa, listed for 1999 to 2012 and 2014 to 2017
- Mounts on the original master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Reach to the grip adjustable next to the pivot
- Standard blade of approximately 138 mm in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
- Short blade in blue, gold, green, orange and silver; long blade in blue, gold, green and orange
- Anodised CNC-machined aluminium with a black hub
- Rigid from hub to tip, without a folding joint
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato shapes the EDF014 from aluminium on CNC machines, so every contour is cut rather than cast and the blade keeps an even section all the way out to its tip. Anodising comes next. The process converts the surface of the metal into a hard oxide layer that absorbs the dye, which means the colour belongs to the aluminium itself instead of lying on it as a film, and it cannot come away in flakes the way tired paint does. The hub, housing the pivot bore and the reach adjuster, is always black. The blade takes the colour you order and runs out as one solid, unhinged piece.
An Early Busa, Kept Fresh
Owners of first-generation Hayabusas tend to fall into two camps. One group wants the bike to look exactly as it did in the showroom; the other enjoys small, tasteful changes that can be undone. The EDF014 works for both. In black, the blade merges with the black hub, so the cockpit keeps its period character and only the crisp machined edges give the new part away. Silver is the other discreet option and sits comfortably on a machine designed in the late 1990s. Because the lever simply takes the place of the stock blade, the original can go into a drawer, ready to be refitted if you ever want to return the bike to factory condition, a point that matters to anyone who values originality. Owners who would rather make a statement will find blue, gold, green and orange in all three lengths.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the Hayabusa, Accossato gives the EDF014 two year ranges: 1999 to 2012, and 2014 to 2017 after a gap in 2013. The catalogue writes the model as GSX-R 1300 Hayabusa R and names the Special Edition of 2003 to 2007 separately. From 2013 onwards Accossato also lists a second brake lever, the EDF041, for bikes up to 2020, so if your Hayabusa is a 2014 to 2017 model, compare its original lever with our product photos before you order. On the left of the bar, the ESS014 clutch lever is listed for every year from 1999 to 2020.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the EDF014, which is why we offer it for use on the race track.
