A Vitpilen tends to be bought whole — the shape, the stance, the clip-ons — and kept that way, which makes reversibility a sensible rule for anything done to it. An air filter element is the most reversible change on the bike: the original panel lifts out undamaged, costs nothing to keep on a shelf, and any of the three elements listed for this airbox goes in without leaving a mark. Worth knowing before ordering the P08 F1-85, because this is a specification rather than an upgrade — a racing weave opened to 85 microns and rated at 15,000 litres per square metre per second, where the standard P08 filters at 80 and flows 5,050.

Keep the panel, and tell whoever has the bike next

An element is invisible with the seat and tank in place, so a filter fitted today is a decision made quietly for every owner who follows. That is harmless when the part is the standard one and less so when it is a racing medium chosen for particular conditions: somebody commuting across a city on a bike they bought used has not agreed to five microns of extra mesh, and nothing on the outside will tell them it is in there. Note it in the service book and keep the original element, and the choice stays a choice rather than an inheritance.

What it costs, and what it will not do

In this housing the racing weave is listed at a little over two and a half times the standard element and more than three times the P14 nonwoven, for a part of the same size cut from different cloth. It does not make a standard 373 cc single noticeably faster; no insert filter does, whatever the medium. What it does share with every Sprint Filter element offered here is the half worth paying for: a low intake restriction to begin with, and the option of washing it back to that value at any service, rather than a paper panel whose resistance only ever rises until it is thrown out.

Care and cleaning

Blow the PM200S F1-85 through with compressed air from the clean side outward, so the load leaves by the face that collected it, and put it straight back: there is no oiling step. A fuller clean uses lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinsed until the water leaves clear, followed by drying in open air and nothing else: no heat, no hot-air gun, no flame. Refit dry. Fitment & Compatibility

For the Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, 2018 to 2023, replacing the original element in an unmodified airbox. Thirteen Husqvarna and KTM machines share this code, and the Vitpilen 401 relaunched for 2024 takes a different one, so check the year rather than the name. The full list is in the Fitment tab.
