DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Z1000R Edition adds Öhlins and Brembo to the naked Z1000. The JP PD KA074 replaces its right-hand switch with machined Ergal on a universal clamp.
Key Features
- Kawasaki Z1000R (2017–2024)
- Universal hole pattern for either master cylinder
- Full street control set
- Black or titanium anodising
- CNC-milled Ergal 7075
- Plug-and-play on the original connector
The Specification Version
Kawasaki's R Edition treatment means an Öhlins rear shock, Brembo monobloc calipers with a radial master cylinder and a different paint scheme. It is applied to the Z1000 in the same way it is to the Z900RS, and it turns a good chassis into a genuinely capable one.
Radial Cylinder From the Factory
Because the R leaves the showroom with a Brembo radial master cylinder, its clamp geometry is not Kawasaki's standard arrangement. The universal hole pattern on this switch is what makes it fit regardless, which is more useful on this version than on the base bike.
A Cockpit Under Scrutiny
Naked motorcycles are judged on their controls because there is nothing else in front of the rider, and an R Edition invites more scrutiny than most. Against Öhlins gold and Brembo lettering, a moulded plastic switch housing is the component that lets the specification down.
Sealed Construction
One-piece Ergal body, sealed switch elements. On a bike with no screen to deflect anything, the assembly is exposed to rain at road speed and the absence of a moulded seam is what keeps it working over years rather than seasons.
Two Finishes
Black and titanium. Titanium sits closer to the anodised gold of the suspension without trying to match it; black disappears against the surrounding plastics.
Plug-and-Play
Kawasaki's own connector is used and nothing is spliced. The traction control and riding modes continue to work exactly as before, and no coding is required at a dealer after fitting.
