DescriptionThe whole story

SuperSport 600 grids run to a tight technical rulebook, and a good many of the bikes on them are managed by a Mectronik ECU rather than the Yamaha original. That changes the ignition wiring, which is why the R6 gets its own SuperSport switch: the JP SPK 023 is built for the Mectronik harness rather than the standard one.

Key Features

  • Built for R6 race bikes running a Mectronik ECU and harness
  • Replaces the ignition block completely — no key, no lock
  • Roughly 350 g saved at the top of the chassis
  • Solid Ergal housing, anodised, IP69K push button
  • Plug-and-play against the Mectronik ignition connector
  • Designed for a bike that will never be road-registered again

Read This Before Ordering

This is not the switch for a standard R6. A bike still running the Yamaha loom and ECU needs the standard part number; a bike converted to Mectronik management needs this one. The two are not interchangeable, and the difference is in the connector, not the button. If you are unsure which loom is in the bike, the Mectronik ECU is the easiest thing to identify — check that first.

What a Race Bike Actually Needs

On a full SuperSport build the immobiliser is long gone with the standard loom, so the Key Box that ships with the road-going kits has nothing to do. What is left is the part that matters on a grid: a sealed, positive button in a machined housing, mounted where the barrel used to be, that will start the bike after a red flag without anyone hunting for a key.

Fitment and Compatibility

  • Yamaha R6 with Mectronik management (2017–2025)

Road Approval

None, and not applicable — this is a component for a competition motorcycle. It is sold for closed-circuit use only.

Finish and Feel

Anodised black, with a short, firm button travel. On a race bike the switch gets operated with gloves on, often in a hurry, and often by someone who is not looking at it — so the action matters more than the appearance. It is definite enough to confirm by feel and stiff enough that it will not be triggered by a leg swinging over the tail.
