DescriptionThe whole story▼
Two hours. That is twice as long as the earlier Z900 headers take, and it is the number to plan around: Kawasaki packaged the 2025 machine more tightly, and the header no longer comes out without the radiator and the lower fairing sections being dealt with first.
Key Features
- 3.4 kg against the standard 7.77 kg: 4.37 kg and 56.2 per cent less
- 7.0 PS more at 9,850 rpm and 4.7 Nm at 7,000 rpm
- Stainless steel construction
- Works with any Slip-On Line for the 2025 Z900
- Turns the muffler into a complete racing system
- Approximately 120 minutes to fit
- No road approval — circuit use only
Plan a Workshop Day
The 120-minute figure is Akrapovic's own, and it is the longest of any Z900 header. This is not an evening in the garage — the motorcycle needs to be on a lift with the front end accessible.
If you are having the work done, get the quote for two hours of labour rather than one.
A Euro 5+ Machine
Kawasaki redesigned the Z900 for 2025 to meet Euro 5+, which brought a heavier and more complex standard exhaust — 7.77 kg against the previous generation's figures. More emissions hardware means more mass, and more mass means a larger saving when it comes off.
It also means the header for this machine will not fit any earlier Z900, and vice versa.
The Same Family, Three Headers
Akrapovic builds E-K9R2 for the 2017 to 2019 machines, E-K9R4 for 2020 to 2024, and this one for 2025 onwards, plus E-K9R5 for the A2 version. Four part numbers for one model name.
The registration document is the only reliable way to tell them apart.
Four Kilograms and Change
4.37 kg out of a 212 kg motorcycle is over two per cent, taken from directly beneath the engine where it sits lowest. That is the most weight any single Akrapovic part removes from the current Z900.
What the Two Hours Buy
Longer fitting time is not a fault of the part. Kawasaki packaged the 2025 machine tightly to meet Euro 5+ while keeping the same silhouette, and everything under the engine became harder to reach as a result.
The work is the same work; there is simply more bodywork in front of it.
Also for the SE
Kawasaki's Z900 SE adds Öhlins rear suspension, Brembo M4.32 calipers and a quickshifter, and shares the engine and exhaust route with the standard machine. Both take this header.
Stainless, Not Titanium
Every Z900 header Akrapovic builds is stainless steel rather than titanium. A header sits at the lowest point of the motorcycle and takes stone strikes from the front wheel; steel survives that where titanium marks and eventually cracks.
Fitment and Compatibility
E-K9R7 covers the Kawasaki Z900 and Z900 SE for model years 2025 and 2026. It requires an Akrapovic Slip-On Line to complete the system.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use.
