DescriptionThe whole story▼
A long tour is not only open road. Between the motorway stretches come toll plazas, border checks, city bypasses and ferry queues, and in each of them the GTR 1400 moves at walking pace, stopping and starting with a full tank and loaded panniers. The clutch lever is busy in exactly those moments. For that work Accossato makes the ESH088, a clutch lever for Kawasaki's shaft-driven sports tourer of 2007 to 2019, machined from aluminium on CNC equipment and offered with adjustable reach and a short, standard or long blade.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the GTR 1400, model years 2007 to 2019
- Fits at the original clutch mounting
- Distance to the grip adjustable
- Three lengths; the standard one approximately 138 mm
- Seven blade colours, black hub
- Machined from aluminium on CNC equipment, then anodised
- Fixed blade with no hinge
Construction and Material Quality
Simplicity is the point of the ESH088. It is machined from aluminium on CNC equipment, anodised so that the colour lies in the oxide layer of the metal itself, and built as one fixed blade running out from a compact black hub. The hub holds the pivot and the reach adjuster; the blade carries the colour and nothing else. There is no hinge and no painted surface, and with fewer joints there is less that can loosen or wear over the many thousands of kilometres a tourer covers in a season.
Toll Booths, Borders and Ferry Ramps
Every touring rider knows the routine at a toll plaza: roll up in first gear, stop at the barrier, find the ticket or card, pay, and pull away again, often uphill and with a queue behind. At a busy border or in the loading lane for a ferry, the same routine repeats at a crawl for half an hour. With a heavy GTR 1400, a passenger and luggage, the clutch has to be fed in smoothly each time, because a snatch at walking pace is hard to catch. A lever within easy reach makes this far easier. Set the ESH088 so that your fingers close round the blade with the hand relaxed, and the friction point stays predictable no matter how often you use it. The long blade reduces the effort per pull, which a tired left hand appreciates at the end of the day; the standard blade is the all-round choice, and the short one is there for riders who like two fingers on the lever.
Fitment and Compatibility
The ESH088 is on Accossato's list for the GTR 1400 from 2007 to 2019 and replaces the stock lever at Kawasaki's clutch mounting. The EDF088 brake lever covers the same period in the same colours, so both sides of the GTR 1400 cockpit can match.
Road Approval
As no German ABE is on record for the ESH088, this clutch lever is sold for use on closed circuits.
