Four Cylinders in a Twin's Class
Almost every rival uses two cylinders, and the Versys is smoother and considerably more characterful for using four.
Replaced by the 1100
Kawasaki enlarged the engine for 2025, which makes the 1000 an unusually good used purchase for anybody who does not need the newest one.
Where the Space Goes
Behind the engine among the shock, the linkage and whatever exhaust the owner has fitted. Removing the vessel makes all three considerably easier to reach.
Room for an Exhaust
Aftermarket silencers mount in the same congested area, and clearing the canister is frequently what turns a difficult fit into a straightforward one.
Where the Fault Code Lives
Against the purge solenoid circuit, in the engine controller. The electronics have no way of knowing whether charcoal is present and no interest in finding out.
Where It Sits
Behind the engine on most of the range and under the tail on some. Either way it is in the area everything else wants to occupy.
Nothing in the Schedule
There is no entry for it in the service book. The bed simply saturates at some point during the motorcycle's life and no one is told, because no one is looking.
Access Is the Real Benefit
On several Kawasakis the canister sits directly in front of the rear preload adjuster. Removing it turns a job that needs a short tool and good language into one that takes two minutes.
What the Next Owner Should Be Told
That the system was removed, when it happened, and that the parts are in a box. Anything less turns a straightforward modification into an unpleasant surprise during a pre-purchase inspection.
An Underrated Motorcycle
The Versys 1000 has never sold as well as it deserved, largely because it does not look like an adventure bike. Owners tend to become evangelists about it, which says something.
