DescriptionThe whole story▼
The first Caballero 500 arrived in 2017, before the range grew into the collection of trims it is today, and those early bikes are now old enough to be bought second hand by riders who like the shape. Fantic's single-cylinder scrambler has always leaned on its front brake more than its styling suggests, since there is not a great deal of engine braking to help. For that 2017 machine Accossato lists the AGPA177 in the Sintered material as article AGPA177ST, describing a grip level that stays constant whether the disc is cold or hot, and that works on a wet face.
Key Features
- Front brake pads for the Fantic Caballero 500 of 2017
- AGPA177ST: the AGPA177 outline pressed with the Sintered material
- Accossato describes constant grip across the temperature range
- Wet discs are named in the description rather than glossed over
- For the plain 2017 bike, not for the later trim levels
- One box is one caliper's worth for the single front disc
- EV1, EV2 and ZXC press the same shape for other purposes
- No German ABE recorded; a competition article
Construction and Material Quality
An even answer at the lever is the whole proposition. The factory does not promise a dramatic first stop but a familiar one, repeated: the same effort producing the same result on a disc that has stood in a cold yard overnight and on one that has just come down a long hill, with rain making no material difference. For a bike that is frequently the second machine in a garage and may sit unused for weeks, that predictability matters more than a peak figure would. The carrier is the standard AGPA177 plate, identical across every suffix of the article, so the fitting is unchanged and only the working surface differs.
The First Season and What Fits It
Buying parts for an early Caballero 500 calls for a little care, because the model did not stand still. Accossato covers the 2017 bike with one front pad and the 2022 and 2023 bikes with another, which is a clear sign that the front end was not left alone in between. A listing found for a Caballero of a different year therefore says nothing reliable about a 2017 machine, and the sensible move before ordering is to take the old pad out and read what is stamped on it.
The same caution applies to everything else on a bike of this age. Look at the disc as well as the pads, since a surface that has worn a distinct step at its outer edge will keep a fresh set from bedding properly. Check that the caliper slides and pins move freely, as a caliper that is reluctant to centre will wear one pad far faster than the other. Change the fluid if its colour has gone dark, and give a new set several firm stops from moderate speed before the 2017 Caballero 500 is trusted in traffic.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato's application list names the Caballero 500 of 2017 for this front pad and nothing else on either side of it; the trims that followed from 2022 are served by the AGPA184 instead. The rear wheel is the one point where the two eras meet, because the AGPP91 is listed both for 2017 and for 2022 to 2023. No Accossato disc is offered for this Fantic. A single box covers the front caliper, and where a bike has changed hands it is always worth comparing the new pad with the one that comes out.
Road Approval
An ABE for the AGPA177ST has never reached us, and neither has a German test certificate. We therefore sell the pads for closed courses and competition.
Scope of Delivery
One box with two AGPA177 pads in the Sintered material, the set a single front caliper takes.
