DescriptionThe whole story▼
New brake discs do not deliver their full performance on the first stop. On a Yamaha XSR900, whose three-cylinder engine pulls hard out of every corner, the brakes get used firmly from the start, which is why the first ride after fitting deserves a plan. Accossato's DK077 is an Elite-line floating front disc listed for the XSR900 from 2016 to 2025. It pairs a 298 mm friction ring with a black carrier, carries the Accossato logo on its rivets and, according to the company, keeps the thickness of the original disc.
Key Features
- Elite-line floating front disc for the Yamaha XSR900, 2016 to 2025
- Listed for both XSR900 generations and the Abarth edition
- 298 mm outer diameter, 132 mm inner diameter
- 5 mm thick, like the original disc according to Accossato
- Black carrier with logo-stamped rivets
- Minimum working thickness printed on the disc
- One disc per order; the XSR900 has two at the front
- No German ABE documented; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Two parts make up the DK077: the friction ring, 298 mm across and 5 mm thick, and a black carrier that opens to 132 mm and bolts to the wheel. Rivets link them, and on this Elite-line disc each one carries Accossato's logo. The company says it matched the thickness to the original disc and worked out the clearances between ring and carrier with great care, an approach it links to its racing experience in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3.
The First Stops on Fresh Discs
Bedding in is the process of laying down a thin, even layer of pad material on the disc and matching the two surfaces to each other. Until that has happened, a new disc and new pads grip less than they will later, and a hard emergency stop on the first ride can glaze the pads or leave uneven deposits that cause judder.
A sensible routine on the XSR900 goes like this. After fitting, pump the lever until it is firm before the bike moves at all. Then find a quiet road and make a series of moderate stops from a middling speed down to walking pace, without locking the front wheel and without coming to a complete halt with the brake held on. Ride on for a while to let everything cool, and repeat. Increase the pressure gradually over the next rides. Avoid holding the bike on the front brake at a standstill straight after a hard stop, since hot pads pressed against one spot can leave a mark. Keep the new discs free of fingerprints and grease, and wipe them with brake cleaner before the first ride if they have been handled. A lever that feels normal and an even grey sheen on the disc surface tell you the job is done.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK077 for the XSR900 from 2016 to 2025. That span runs from the first XSR900 with ABS through the Abarth edition of 2017 and 2018 to the reworked model sold from 2022 and the Legend Blue version. The front wheel of the XSR900 carries two discs and the price covers one. For the same years Accossato also lists the DKS073, a floating disc outside the Elite line. Tighten the disc bolts to Yamaha's specification.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE or type approval on record for the DK077. We sell it for track use, not for the road.
Scope of Delivery
One DK077 Elite floating disc; the other side of the XSR900 needs a second one.
