DescriptionThe whole story▼
Every enduro rider eventually meets the climb that says no. On a KTM 250 EXC-F the moment tends to come two thirds of the way up, when the rear tyre digs in, the revs collapse and you are left on a steep slope with a stalled four-stroke. What follows is the awkward part: turning the bike round without letting it tumble back down. Accossato's C7283 is a folding clutch lever for the 250 EXC-F from 2007 to 2022, cut from Ergal 7075, with a joint made for exactly the kind of clumsy moment a failed climb produces.
Key Features
- Folding clutch lever for the KTM 250 EXC-F, 2007 to 2022
- Listed for the 2007–2013 bikes and the 2014–2022 bikes alike
- Mounts at the original clutch control on the left of the bar
- Longer blade with room for four fingers, as Accossato describes it
- Anti-break joint: the blade can fold forward instead of breaking off
- CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Blade in black, blue, orange or red on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
The C7283 is milled out of Ergal 7075, among the strongest aluminium alloys in everyday engineering use, rather than cast into shape. Accossato does the machining in Italy and says the aim is a lever that is strong, light and dependable. It is built in two sections: a dark base that stays on the pivot, and a coloured blade that hangs from it on a joint. Being a clutch lever, it is longer than Accossato's brake lever and drawn for four fingers, so the whole hand can share the pull.
Turning Round Halfway Up
The usual way to turn round on a slope you cannot climb goes like this. Hold the bike on the front brake, let it roll back a little with the bars turned so that it ends up across the slope, then get off on the uphill side and lay it down against the hill. Drag the rear round until the front points downhill, stand the bike up and ride down slowly in gear, using the rear brake and a covered clutch. When the bike lies with its left side against the slope, the clutch lever is what meets the ground, and the landing is not always gentle. A boot slides on loose stones, the bike rolls further than planned, and the lever meets a rock with the machine's full weight behind it.
This is where the joint on the C7283 earns its place. Instead of taking the whole impact at its tip, the blade can tip forward and survive a knock that might snap a solid lever. No lever comes through every such moment, but getting back down the hill with a working clutch is far easier than rolling down without one and trying to restart the 250 EXC-F at the bottom.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato names two version groups of the KTM 250 EXC-F for this lever, 2007 to 2013 and 2014 to 2022, and the C7283 fits both at the original clutch mount. Owners of the later bikes can pair it with the B8283 folding brake lever, listed from 2014 to 2022; for an earlier 250 EXC-F the range offers only this clutch lever. Red is available on the clutch side but not on the brake lever.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE on file for the C7283. We supply it for off-road and competition riding; fitted to a 250 EXC-F on public roads, it is not approved.
