DescriptionThe whole story▼
The GTR 1400 is built for distance. Kawasaki's big sports tourer, sold in North America as the Concours 14, combines a four-cylinder engine derived from the ZZR1400 with shaft drive, a large fairing and panniers, and it feels most at home when the day's route runs to several hundred kilometres. By the evening of such a day, the hands have done a great deal of quiet work. The Accossato EDF088 replaces the front brake lever of the GTR 1400, listed from 2007 to 2019, with a CNC-machined aluminium lever whose reach you can set to your own hand.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the Kawasaki GTR 1400, 2007 to 2019
- Adjustable reach, set near the pivot
- Long blade for extra leverage in blue, gold, green and orange
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm in all seven colours
- Uses the original Kawasaki master cylinder
- CNC-machined aluminium, anodised, black hub
- One-piece blade without a folding joint
- Comes in an Accossato box
Construction and Material Quality
The EDF088 is machined, not moulded. Accossato cuts it from aluminium on CNC machines, which gives the blade a consistent profile and an even surface where the fingers rest, and then anodises it. The result is a hard oxide layer at the surface of the aluminium, black on the hub and in your chosen shade on the blade. For a GTR 1400 that is washed after rainy days and parked outside hotels overnight, a finish that is part of the metal ages more gracefully than a coat of paint. The EDF088 is rigid: one continuous piece, no hinge.
The Last Hour of a Long Day
Fatigue on a tourer rarely announces itself. After six or seven hours in the saddle, the right hand has made countless small throttle corrections and many brake applications, and the forearm muscles are tired in a way you only notice when a sharp stop is suddenly needed. That is when the position of the brake lever matters most. A blade that sits too far away forces the fingers to open wide before they can squeeze, adding a delay and asking for effort from a hand that has little left. Set closer with the adjuster, the EDF088 lets the fingers rest on the blade in a relaxed curve, ready to act. The long blade adds leverage, so a firm stop takes less force than with a shorter lever, which is worth having on a heavy tourer carrying luggage and perhaps a passenger. Set the reach at the start of a trip, wearing the gloves you will ride in, and the lever will be where your fingers expect it for the whole journey on the GTR 1400.
Fitment and Compatibility
The GTR 1400 is on Accossato's list for the EDF088 across the whole span from 2007 to 2019. It replaces the stock blade on the original master cylinder. On the left side, the ESH088 clutch lever is listed for the same years with the same colours and lengths, if you would like both levers to match.
Road Approval
Our documents show no German ABE for the EDF088, so this lever is offered for use on the track.
