The 368 series arrived for 2025, which makes the air-filter line in its service schedule a forecast. That interval was written before any of these machines had covered real distance in owners' hands, and before anyone could report what a season does to the panel in this particular box. There is nothing wrong with a forecast. It is simply a weaker instrument than a look, and a washable element is the thing that makes looking free.

An interval you can check rather than trust

A disposable panel makes inspection pointless: whatever you find, the only available response is to buy another one, so most owners sensibly leave it alone until the book says otherwise. A washable element inverts that. Opening the box costs nothing, cleaning costs nothing, and there is a defined condition to compare against, because the element started clean and goes back to clean. On a platform with no accumulated experience behind it, that turns the first years of ownership into observation instead of guesswork.

What that is and is not worth

It is worth a schedule that fits the actual bike. An owner on dry sealed roads may find the panel barely marked at the first service, while a shorter, dustier commute writes a very different story into the same weave. What it is not worth is horsepower. A 368M with a standard airbox and standard fuelling gains none from an element swap, whatever the material, and any description promising otherwise is describing a different sort of modification altogether. The gain here is a lower intake restriction that is put back where it started every time the element is cleaned, plus a line that leaves the parts side of the service bill permanently.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air does the routine work, blown from the clean face out through the dirty one so the load takes the shortest way off the fabric. When the deposit has gone tacky rather than dusty, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent and rinse until the water runs clean. Then dry it slowly in circulating air, since heat of any kind — a flame, a hot cabinet, a heat gun — is what actually kills these elements, and put the SM295S back dry with nothing sprayed on.
