DescriptionThe whole story▼
Spring is when many owners of a Ducati Panigale 959 roll the bike out after months under a cover and look at it closely for the first time in a while. The front discs deserve that look. Accossato's DK053 is a floating disc that can take the place of the original at the front of the Panigale 959 of 2016 to 2019. It has a black carrier and a 4.5 mm friction ring, and Accossato describes it as interchangeable with the original equipment disc.

Construction and Material Quality
The DK053 is built as a floating disc. Its outer ring, where the pads do their work, is held to a black centre by rivets with a little built-in freedom, which lets the ring expand when it gets hot and keeps it square to the pads. Accossato measures the disc at 320 mm outside and 72 mm at the centre and gives the ring a thickness of 4.5 mm. The company says that design and materials, as well as the tolerances between carrier and ring, have been worked out with care, based on what it learned in Superbike, Moto2 and Moto3.
After a Winter Under the Cover
Brake discs do not like standing still in damp air. After a few weeks a thin brown film of rust forms on the ring, and on a floating disc it often creeps into the gaps around the rivets as well. The light surface layer usually disappears within the first few gentle stops, and on its own it is no reason for a new disc. What deserves attention is what the rust may have hidden. Run a fingernail across the ring from the centre outwards: deep grooves that catch the nail, a raised lip at the outer edge, and pitting that remains after the first ride all point to a disc that has given most of what it had.
Before the first proper ride of the season on the Panigale 959, measure the ring with a micrometer at several points and compare the readings with the minimum marked on the disc. Check the rivets too. Slight movement is normal on a floating disc, but none should be loose enough to rattle. If a disc is past its limit, replace both front discs together and start the season with new pads, bedding them in over a series of moderate stops on a quiet road.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the DK053 for the Panigale 959 from 2016 to 2019, covering the standard bike and the 959 Corse. The price applies to one disc, and the Panigale 959 uses two at the front. The same range includes the Elite-line DKS035 for the front and the fixed DK008 for the rear wheel.
Road Approval
The DK053 has no German ABE and no documented type approval. Its intended use is on closed tracks and in competition.
